Freesat and TVEi on integrated TV

Santa has brought me a Sony 40W5810 TV with integrated satellite tuner. I have tuned into TVEi (Spanish partner) but would also like to use Freesat for HD. I was previously using a Humax C1-8100 with a 90cm dish, two LNBs and a Global switch. I understand that I will need to use the offset arm to tune to 19.2E and 28.2E. My question is: will the TV tuner beable to switch between the two and if not can I buy a freestanding remote for the switch to use at the TV end? The TV is scandulously lacking in manuals or other useful information.

Not sure about that model but most TV's with integrated sat receiver are also scandulously lacking in an understanding of generating diseqc commands. There is a thread somewhere posted previously I'll post it if I find it
 
Page 103 of the manual mentions DiSEqC, but you may have to tune in non-Freesat mode for Astra 2
 
Thanks both. My manual has a measly 28 pages and I could find nothing more on the Sony web-site.
I don't know if it's me or the Humax but I sent several hours on a freezing roof failing to find Astra 2. The tuner would find signals but only "quality" readings which could be decoded on Astra 1. My LNBs are very old. Do I need newer ones for HD?
 
If your Humax was happy, then the TV should be OK without changing stuff on the roof.

Meanwhile the Humax (I think) is driving me nuts. I thought I would have more luck finding 28.2 if I used the currently in use and newer LNB in the centre rather than off-set position but putting it there I could not even find 19.2. Only by going back to putting it on the offset arm can I get back. This is not helped by the fact that the strength metre on the tuner will sometimes offer a signal even if I put it in my pocket! )(-red
The only thing I can think is that I am not getting far enough East. To get any further in that direction I would have to change the bracket arm position and remount but I'm reluctant to do so as my compass tells me I'm already 40 East.
I must be doing something fundamental wrong but never had any problems when I set it up ten years ago.
 
Well

I suspect you may be forgetting that the signal is reflected off the dish so to receive an Eastern satellite on an offset arm you have the lnb on the West side of central and to receive a Westerly satellite you have the lnb on the Easterly side of central...hope this helps

It has diseqc 1.0 so it will switch between 4 ports on your Global diseqc switch.

To set-up a DiSEqC input, use the "LNB Configuration" menu.

Looks like a good TV. Bit expensive.
 
Thanks Topper. I had worked out that it was reflected but now I think my compass is giving me inaccurate readings while on the roof. From the reading I get in the garden it looks like I would need to re-mount the dish to point sufficiently East. This would explain everything apart from getting a signal with the LNB in my pocket! It's been too icy to get out there since.
Hexah: now that's more like a manual and has answered loads of questions about the TV including the one I started with. Not sure if they left it out deliberately or not. I'm pleased with the TV and looking forward to Freesat. I got it for £900 including BDPS560 Blu Ray and 5 year guarantee. Blu Ray pics are sensational.
 
Forget the compass and use Dishpointer for your mounting position and starting alignment. Go to "Site Links" at the top of this page.

"Signal" with LNB in pocket is merely a quiescent reading indicating everything is connected and powered up.
 
Signal strength is almost meaningless - as you have discovered you get a reading just from connecting the LNB!

If the TV has a signal quality reading then this will be much more useful. When you make your slight movements of the dish always allow a few seconds for the reading to catch up.
 
Hi there, this is my first post, so pls bear with me...

I too have the Sony KDL-40W5810, and i have to agree it's an amazing tv, especially with Blu-ray. But when doing a firmware update via usb stick 2 weeks ago, my tv reset after installing and never came back to life. Luckily enough i had a 5 yr no quibble warranty with it, so it went bye-byes for a few days to have the firmware reflashed.

I'm currently pointing to 28e for the usual freesat channels, but as the tv is DiSEqC 1.0, i'm looking at getting a bigger/2nd dish and a few Lnbs for multi-sat use, but my question is which satellites to point at, which DiSEqC 4-1 box to get (quality, not cheap �3 ebay jobby), and what size dish?

I would like to recieve 19e as one of my options, maybe 16e and 13e, or anywhere that would have other channels with HD broadcasts and/or english audio feeds (fta if poss).

I also am considering a Humax PVR, so i understand that quad Lnbs and 2 extra DiSEqc boxes will be required.

I hope someone out there would like to share their knowledge with me.
