Hi all.

About 4 years ago I bought a UK sat receiver (thomson, I think it's the 4212) with an expired freesat card (yellowhouse) on ebay, naturally the card was the main thing and I only used the receiver for the key updates all few months. And that worked perfectly for nearly 4 years, but yesterday I had to find that the card is no longer good - as you probably all know, the old yellowhouse cards are exchanged to white cards for 20 pounds. Of course, if possible, I would like to continue this, I'm mainly interested in Channel4HD, but also the other encrypted FTV channels (Fiver, Five USA, Sky 3, Channel4+1). I was thinking about contacting the guy from whom I purchased the setup. But before doing so, I would like to know if I understand the procedure correctly so he doesn't get into unexpected situations or trouble:

  • He would fill in the web form giving card number and his address and would send the 20 pounds (which of course I would send to him in advance)
  • He gets the card and forwards it to me
  • I put it in the Thomson box, send him a mail, so he can activate it by phone using the Thomson bo serial and within a day or so it should be activated
What about the encryption scheme those white cards use? Is it still compatible with the old thomson box I have here? And do you know if the card also works on a Dreambox 8000 (currently using CCam)? The old one worked perfectly, just the keyupdates didn't work so I had to put it into the Thomson once all few months, but that was ok. Is this setup expected to stop to work for a longer time? And if so, would it at least still work in the Thomson box, or will they disable those old receivers completely?

One final question: should the guy I got the card from not be ready to do it, can somebody else I know in the UK arrange the card for me? What if he already owns a card, how many freesat cards are acceptable for one household in the uk?
