Freesat in Northern Spain?

My Satellite Setup
In UK dish plus quad LNB, Humax Foxsat-HDR Freesat Recorder and Humax HD Freesat receiver.
In Spain 1m dish, dual LNB, Grundig SD Freesat receiver
My Location
SE England and N Spain
I notice from this forum that there are people living in Europe who are getting/trying to get UK Freesat channels. We have a house in Huesca in northern Spain, which is just south of the Pyrenees and more or less on the Meridian line. Do we stand any chance of getting Freesat, and if so what size dish would we need?

Not too sure exactly where Huesca is, but before I dash away and look at an Atlas, you may be lucky.

Certainly in northern Catalunya and parts of Aragon Astra 2D can be received with a 60cm dish, but the further west you go to Cantabria and Galicia, you're back into big dish territory.
 
Well, I see you are about 60 miles west of Tremp and you can definitely get 2D with 60cm there (I have a holiday snap somewhere I shall post shortly!)

That does not mean you will have the same luxury, but I shouldn't have thought you'd need anything too much bigger :)

Did it rain while you were on holiday there? I would have thought that 60cm wouldn't give much margin for rain fade.

I know there are hotspots but unless anyone has personal eperience round ther I would go fo an 80cm or even 90cm dish.

Don't forget that the Spanish measure their dishes vertically, to make them sound bigger, while the rest of the world measures them horizontally.

Would there be any problem with getting BBC radio channels in this part of Spain via Freesat?

Oh yes, one torrential day, so more TV was watched than is strictly desirable. No problems at all. The other Brits in the village also had 60cm dishes. But Huesca is west of there and, as I suggested before, something not too much bigger would probably be the order of the day, which fits nicely with your 80 or 90 cm suggestion (You appear to have quoted only the first half of my Post :)).

Radio same same as TV, for all practical purpose.

You do know Wogan is leaving the Breakfast show? :D

But you really need to size up in accordance with very local recommendation borne of experience as 10cm too small would be a tragedy. Are there any other Brits in the vicinity?
 
I'm in Barcelona, south of you and have perfect Freesat through a Maplin supplied HD sat kit. An 80 cm motorised dish, Fortec Star HD receiver and LNB. I really have been enjoying 'Life' on BBC HD on Mondays!
 
.... as per sig, the dish is 90cm!
 
Huesca is equidistant from Barcelona and Bilbao, almost exactly due south of London. Its not exactly a hotspot for Brits, but we do know a few, and will seek advice re dish size.

Get the biggest and best dish you can afford, you never know what's around the corner.
 
I have now moved to Lanzarote. I would be interested to use a freesat HD receiver but not sure what dish or receiver type is best, any thoughts Guys ??
 
I'm getting Free Sat on a 1.9 dish in Valencia but losing some channels at night. Radio programmes are not affected. Suspect that 2.4 dish is needed here and further South.
