No sorry it isn't, Sky aren't launching anything, it is BBC and ITV, but their channels will mostly be on Astra 2D, so reception will be as it is now.

If anything, overall it is likely to get worse if and when Channel Four eventually pulls their encrypted version off 2A north, leaving only 2D.

This rumour might be true in places where 2D reception is better than 2A/B North beam.

For example in the far south there is a 2D hot spot where a 1m dish or less will pick up the 2D channels, but a 1.2m will struggle for 2A/B north where C4 was (well it was a few years ago) :)

But in most places it will make reception more difficult.

This rumour has been around for nearly a year thats to a bad interpretation of a poorly written press release on one of the expats forum. This rumour had it that all the Freesat channels would be appearing on Eurobird 1.

This of course is complete rubbish - the epg for the new system operates on EB 1 but the channels were never going to be transferring - in fact some of the popular stuff will go the other way onto 2D (Five and its family for starters when their encryption contracts run out and they want to join Freesat)

Good idea Rd100 it is the shortage of metal dustbin lids which makes people resort to flimsy aluminium trays :)

Analoguesat .......do you think channel 4 HD will be move as well to astra 2D vertical???

cause i do not see any CH4-HD in freesat....

my cuestion its cause if CH4 go to 2D vertical.........then CH4HD will be the only way to pick up this channel in canary islands

thanks

According to the frequencies on lyngsat FREESAT is not on 2D. Is that right? Any body got HD box to scan with on the Costa Blanca?

Freesat is NOT a "package" of channels.
Freesat is an EPG.
The Freesat EPG is on Eurobird.
Channels that the Freesat and Sky EPG point to are on all sats at 28.2/5.
BBC1 is on 2d. That is one channel of approx 40 that are part of freesat. it is 1 channel out of several hundred available via the Sky EPG. It is one channel out of several hundred available via a generic FTA receiver.

Once its encryption contract runs out C4 HD will have to go to 2D if they want to stay on the Sky platform. Should they decide to go to Freesat only then they could do the same technical trick as ITV HD have done. (My money would be a switch to 2D.)

The Freesat channels are carried on Astra 2A, 2B, 2C 2D & Eurobird 1 (as they have always been)

The epg is on EB1.

If you are hoping to be able to get the Beeb without a silly sized dish on the CB you are going to be sorely disappointed - the channels are on exactly the same satellites as they have always been - so anything you couldnt get a month ago is still out of reach for you...

Yes i do know what FREESAT is, it is the new platform that the BBC and & ITV have jointly (just) launched.
FREESAT is broadcasting 80 channels and have nothing to do with SKY. They are a SKY TV alternative.
FREESAT is NOT an EPG.O-no
If you can´t answer the question, then don´t put anything.
Thanks Analogesat for the reply.

Well woborny is not entirely incorrect with what is on offer at the moment, the only difference being between what is available at the moment on a standard Sky digibox and a FREESAT receiver, the dedicated EPG.

Longer term, there may be channels which will be on FREESAT and not on the Sky EPG.

He is entirely incorrect Rolfw, because he says it isn´t a package and then goes on to describe what is Free To View on the SKY platform. So his post, which i found very condescending

Very nicely made him look like he doesn´t know what he was talking about.
The fact that you don´t get anything too different from what SKY offer FTV is at the moment is a formality i think.

I agree the post could have been versed differently, but it depends how pedantic you want to be as to whether it qualifies as a package or platform. The channels are indeed the same, if you have a Sky digibox, the frequencies of the BBC and ITV channels are exactly the same as they are on a FREESAT box, not different versions of the same channel, as will channel four's offering.

But anyway, not sure how relevant all this is.

As you guessed, it was more the tone than the reply. The reply was easily ignored, but the tone....'O'-red
Still,no good to me anyway, with my 1.2mtr dish. If i´m up double early i get to watch the bbc for about 30-40 mins, but at that time in the morning i would rather sleepU-zzzU-zzzU-zzz

From What Satellite Magazine:
Today saw the launch of Freesat, a subscription-free satellite TV platform backed by the BBC and ITV. It's independent of Sky, with its own channel list, set-top boxes, programme guide and interactive services.

You must be fairly close then on dish size if you can get the BBC some of the day, any chance of upgrading the dish slightly? :)

No real point. Got so many packages open at the moment and 1.9mtr is the minimum upgrade, with the 2.4mtr the better option. Literally only get it from about 5.45am to max 6.30am. The start time is only because my boy decides he´s had enough sleep:-doh2
With a 1.5mtr you keep the BBC till about 10:30/11am
If i were to upgrade it would be a Linux HD box i would spend my money on and get on a pay server for Sky Italia, or Showtime 24/7

Premier going secure
