I've noticed that although the main UK channels are on Astra 2D the other Freesat channels are on Eurobird 1. I live in the extreme East of Germany near the Polish border. If I point my satellite dish (85cm) at Eurobird would I be able to pick up these other Freesat channels with a Freesat box or other FTA box?

It is unlikely an 85 cm is big enough for reception of Astra 2D in East Germany, you should have no problems picking up Eurobird, 2D is co-located to within 0.3 degree of Eurobird but on a beam focussed on the UK.

So, does that mean that channels on Eurobird 1 should be available. I have a Comag SL65/2CI box

Eurobird should be reasonably easy for you with an 85cm dish, yes.

Astra 2A and 2B will be straightforward too.

Gooides include BBC News, Sky News, and the BBCi Streams, which is quite useful as they carry lots of interesting goodies (eg F1) and your Comag can treat them in the same way as "proper" Channels so you can access them directly.
