Freesat power disconnects when co ax is plugged in. Help?

First off, hi to everyone, and thanks if you've taken the time to read my post.

:confused: First off, some context. I live in an area where we have a communal satellite dish. I've had Sky before, which worked fine in general.

I've purchased two different Freesat boxes and several new pieces of co ax, however, I've discovered that when the co ax is connected to both Freesat box AND the satellite connection on the wall, it cuts off the power to the receiver. When it's not connected to the wall but just the plug socket it works fine, however, as you all know, power is not enough to get a signal.

I'm lost. I can't understand why the co ax cable (I used Sky's piece, one prepared by myself, and even a pre prepared piece from B&Q, all to no avail) cuts off the power. It's obviously something to do with my communal satellite box, but I'm wondering if it's a sneaky ploy when installed so all I can use is Sky, or if it may be a damaged box, or if I'm just bloody thick.

Help - please!

Have you tried another receiver on the connection?
 
Hi,

I first tried a Ross receiver which had the same problem. At first I thought it was that receiver, so I returned it and bought a Bush one, but it's the same problem.

Is it possible for you to try the receiver on a neighbours point?

Would prove that the box is OK, at least, and give credibility to the feed to your point being defective.
 
Hi,

First sorry for the very late reply.

I have now checked the box elsewhere and it does indeed work. The only reason I can think of it not working is that the house was rewired about two months ago. Prior to that I had a Sky digital. Now - after rewire - when I plug the Freesat box in to the communal box the power cuts. One important note: when this happens I hear a pulse go through the box and the green power light beeps on and off. They also installed a new plug socket next to it, so it must be to do with that.
