Freesat problems

My Satellite Setup
Sky zone 2 raven Sky quad LNB triax SR110
My Location
Hull
So I feel real dumb now, done my aerial and sat training with no problems, went to set up a freesat dish on my home just to make sure i'm upto scratch, and nil poi. Using sky zone 2 raven dish, sky quad lnb, quality coax and f connectors and a triax box. Got it set to 28.2e and getting 51% sinal 14% quality, thats the best rating. theres nothing blocking it as its the same as my neighbours set up. Tell me I can use this dish and lnb for freesat guys n gals, as I have almost given up!! :-DOH2

Dish should be fine for freesat. Possible slight misalignment or not aligned. Well worth checking the LNb skew in addition. Whilst there check quad adaptor is sitting correctly on dish boom.

If you could post up a picture, there maybe something obvious.
 
The way the quads sitting, are you referring to the 5 markers on the underneath? I have the arrow pointing to 3. The skew?? That was never mentioned.
 
If the signal quality is only 14% then its not aligned correctly.Remember you need to be correcttly aligned to within a degree or so in both up/down and left/right axes to get anything.

Those markers do indeed represent Skew and 3 should be ok for your location.
 
Of to get a new compass as mine must be way out. 23.2e she should sit and she will. Will take some pics if i'm having any more problems.
 
Don't bother with a compass. Very crude guide indeed.

Have a look at Dishpointer to get your starting point.
 
Been trying to tune into astra/eurobird 28e, think thats wrong. I need astra 23.5e is that correct for uk freesat??(only other astra is 19.2) Used dishpointer earlier to get readings for the sat, used my compass to align it at 23.5e and 28.2e and moved it between the two. It's a digiyal compass so was accurate.

Thing is only astra 23.5 e comes up or 28.2/eurobird, so which one is correct. You can see my details abobe from dishfinder. Close to torching my sat and getting an expert out, 6 hours still no joy, will post pics later
 
Freesat is on 28.2/28.5E

28.2 is Astra 2a, 2B, 2D AND 28.5 is Eurobird 1 ................ doesn't matter how your Receiver labels it as they are effectively co-located.

ie Your dish seems them as one blob.
 
Well thats what I was trying to tune into. I had astra/eurobird 28e on the reciever, but no matter were I pointed the dish, from due east to south I never got above 55% signal 14% quality. Will take pics tommorow to show you. Really frustrated too. If I can't even set up a simple dish seems like I wasted the last 6 months starting this business up. So just to confirm my dish needs to be pointing to 28.2 not 23.3?????? east. I'm gathering the elevation is the angle of which I point the dish up and down?? What do i measure that with???? If so whats the astra 23.5 e for???
 
There are a lot of other satellites up there and a lot of other providers apart from Sky UK. 23.5E contains other channels/packages for other countries, as well as other things, take a look at the link:

This aerial/satellite course seems to have been very basic if they didn't teach you about other satellites.
Did they teach you to carry out any motorized installations?

Elevation is the upward angle the dish is looking - but it is not the angle of the dish face, owing to the offset of the LNB arm.

The dish face should be slightly up from vertical.

Most dishes have Elevation scales on their brackets, but the one you are using doesn't, if I recall correctly.

Doesn't really matter - start with dish face just tilting up a bit from vertical and go from there.

Did mention elevation on the course, we did a lot of theory then went out and put a dish up outside. We was using £200 meters not the turf I have though... Off to 28.2e we go.......
 
Well if you have the dish itself facing 25 degrees or so up in the air, you'll overshoot the Satellite by thousands of miles.

Don't forget the offset ..................

If still having trouble after your next attempt, Post up some pics.
 
Another thing to remember is that the figure of 28.2E/28.5E is NOT the figure that you point the dish to by compass (or even corrected compass). This is the position that the satellite is above the earth with respect to zero degrees running through Greenwich.

If you were in any of the countries that are 28E of Greenwich (Finland, etc see _http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/28th_meridian_east ) then you would actually set your dish at zero degrees. Dishpointer will give you a huge help in this respect.
 
I dont know if your using a meter or the triax box/tv to check signal strength/quality but some boxes have quite a delay in updating the signal lock/strength/quality (especially $ky boxes) perhaps you are moving the dish to quickly.
To "peak" a dish you find the satellite then gently put pressure on the top/bottom of the dish then the same on either side to get the highest quality reading possible while making very small adjustments ie. tightening bolts one way or another.
 
At last I'm aligned and have 88% signal 76% quality and lots of freesat channels.:) Only problem is I now have about 5 of each bbc, itv etc plus there all mixed up. Please tell me theres a way to have them in the correct order without having to manually delete and move channels......O-no
 
No, you have to move them.:)
