Is it possible to connect my one aerial fed into a freesat box and a Sky box.

I have just purchased a Humax Foxsat HD, but as I cannot receive C5 (see my previous postings in regard to the poor reception area I live in and some of the other channels that broadcast on the same frequency (BBC2 etc). I thought I could run my old Sky box in tandem so I could watch these channels, without having to change the cables over each time.

So would it be possible (and how) to connect both the Humax and the Sky box to the same feed?
 
Not possible at the same time (...well possible but only the one band will be received of course).

...best option is to fit a quad and run another cable feed, future proof yourself for pvr :D
 
Quad LNB not possible as the dish is sited on somebody else is property, will just have to change the cable over when I want to watch Sky instead of Freesat.

Assuming you are using your neighbour's Dish with their consent, can't you negotiate with them to replace the LNB? Share the cost?
 
Not really possible as design of our properties and the amount of cabling required which would have to run through my neighbours property makes it impossible to have a quad LNB. Unfortunately all cables have to go into his property and then down to mine.

How would an A/B switch connect. I looked on the web and it says 'for switching between two LNB's & a single receiver?

Would there be any reduction in signal strength?

I know it sound a bit thick, but I assume I would connect the single end to the satellite aerial and the others one to each receiver?
 
If you cant get the fta version of C5 then its unlikley you will get it on the Freesat box either.

The sky (scrambled version) is broadcast on Astra 2C so should be an easy catch anywhere in Europe. Ergo buy a 20 quid FreesatfromSky card and you will get it.

Reversible: Can also be used for connecting either of two Rx's to a single Feed.

In theory, they could introduce a loss, as any "joint" can, but in practice I find it makes little difference, even on marginal TPs.

That said, your potential marginality (?) problems are different t0, and possibly more significant than, mine.

Still, they are only a handful of €, so must be worth a try.
 
Hi Analoguesat that why I want to keep my Sky cause I can get C5 with my Sky box but not with my Humax as it broadcast on the same frequency as BBC2, which I don't get with either Sky or Freesat.

rai uno as you say its not much so will get the A/B switch and see what happens

If you use the loop through, just make sure that the Sky digibox is switched off at the mains when you use the Humax (as the digibox permanently powers the LNB) and the Humax is in standby when using the digibox, should then work, as I don't believe that the Humax keeps the LNB power live whilst in standby.
 
I didn't think the Humax foxsat had loop out :confused:
 
The non-PVR Foxsat doesn't.

Yet another A/B switch has had to be deployed to switch over to my Analogue Rx once the Foxsat has done its job as a Positioner.

I have a feeling that the PVR version does have IF Loop Through, though. Not sure.

Just to be absolutely certain I hadn't deluded myself about the non-PVR, I've just been down to the ice-making compartment (Our Bedroom) to check and it definitely doesn't.

Curious that there should be a difference like this between the non-PVR and PVR versions.

The OP refers to a Foxsat HD, but doesn't say whether non-PVR or PVR, although the particular problem is even worse if he wants a PVR owing to yet another Feed being required!
 
yes strange that with the non pvr Humax...the Grundig HD has one :D
