My Satellite Setup
SKY HD PLUS
My Location
DORSET UK
Hi to all, have just registered in the hope that someone can point me in the right direction with regards to the following:
I have updated my Sky to HD + with a full package to a Panasonic 37" HD PlasmaTV in the downstairs lounge, this has left me with a spare Sky Box, it is a Sony VTX-760U receiver, I have TV in the upstairs bedroom which uses a loft Aerial,(I live in a conservation area and roof top are not allowed) and as you can imagine the reception is not very good, the question is can I somehow use the spare Sky Box to input Freesat to the bedroom TV using the existing Sky set up , if so how, will I need a sky card etc, I dont want to go down the sky multiroom route as this is an additional monthly charge,
My sky dish is located sympatheticly in my rear garden and the bedroom tv is located directly over the lounge tv.

Thanks

As you now almost certainly have a Quad LNB (Four outputs) on your Dish, just run a Satellite grade cable from an unused output to wherever you wish to use the spare box.

Without a Card, you'll get all BBC, ITV, Channel 4 plus lots more.

Five can be added in Add Channels.

With a Card (£20) you'll also get Five appearing on 105, Sky 3, Fiver and Five US.

The Card will also put a local Regional BBC1 and ITV1 on 101 and 103. Without it, you'll get BBC London on 101 and ITV Central West on 104.

But all other BBC Regions appear on the EPG anyway (late 900s) and you can use Add Channels if you wanted any other ITV Regions.

Hi,

all you need to do is to run another satellite grade cable from a spare output on your existing dish to the location of the spare sky box. Plug that in and you will get all the FTA channels.

Tivo,
Will that £20 card work in any receiver if it has a card reader and where can I get one?
I know my receivers (tm3150 and tm5200) do not, but I believe that I can can add one.
Tony.

No, it won't.

It will work in a Sky Digital Box and a few other Linux and specialist receivers in certain conditions.

Don't forget, there is no readily available NDS CAM.

PS: I'm named after an Italian Platform, not a TV In, Video Out gizmo ........ :-rofl2

Hi Tivu, I've just joined the forum and the situation that MICKANDJANET were in (18 mths ago!) is identical to my current situation. Since I upgraded to Sky+HD, I have a spare Pace Sky digibox (DS430N) - no card, and was wondering if I could use this to receive Freesat on the TV in the bedroom and what connections would be needed?

Many thanks

Run a new cable from the dish to the desired location and away you go.

You can DIY quite easily but DONT try this if the dish is inaccessible or you cant reach it safely.

I had to look that up on Wikipedia, thought it was a real person! We don´t want people going the way of Rod Hull.

Thank's for the advice. There are four connection ports on the Satelite dish and three are currently in use. Do I 'simply' connect the new cable to the available connection port?

Thanks again

I also have a spare Panasonic DVD Recorder (DMR-EZ27E:cool:. Could this be used to receive Freeview instead of the Pace Digibox? Not sure if it has Freeview built in?

Thanks

That Panny appears to have a Freeview tuner built in (not Freesat - which is what this discussion is about) - you will need to hook it up up to a tv aerial that receives Freeview transmissions.

Hi Tivu, you mentioned in an earlier post about an card (£20) for a spare sky box. Could you please elaborate on what type of card and perhaps a forum sponsor who might supply?

Thanks
Dave
