Freesat with other channels

Never had satellite before so completely new to this. I want to get JSTV which I've read works on Hotbird 6, East13 and requires a cryptoworks box.

Is it possible to get standard UK freeview to work on the same set top box? Ideally I want just one box to do regular TV plus the JSTV channel. Any ideas what receiver to get for this? Thanks
 
Freeview = DTT through the aerial. Nothing to do with satellite reception.

You are going to need a satellite receiver of some sort, and a subscription to JSTV - expensive to buy as its 100 quid joining fee PLUS 30 quid a month! Plus the equipment of course.

yes I'm aware of the price - so expensive! But you can get 'freesat' to run through the same box?
 
Do you really mean Freeview?, i.e TV through an aerial, or the satellite closest equivalent "Freesat"?

If its Freeview, doesn't your TV do that already?

If not, then there are combo receivers available such as the TM7102, which has 2 sat tuners and a terrestrial tuner. It has a slot for a CAM so should be able to accomodate the appropriate CAM module if need be.

If it is Freesat you want, then strictly speaking you may not be able to do what you want, but a regular digital satellite receiver ( with a CAM slot) would get you all the free channels from the Freesat platform and could via a disqec switch get signals from both Hotbird and 28E with appropriate dish hardware.
 
Yes you can do it to some degree - however you will end up with a free to air receiver not a freesat receiver. The FTA box will give you limited epg functionality (basically now & next) and not the full Freesat epg.
 
The TV doesn't have freeview built in so it's an external box. I'm hoping to avoid having 2 boxes so want the usual freeview channels to come through the satellite box if possible. I had a look at the TM7102 - I assume you have to have 2 cables coming into the house from the roof. 1 from the aerial and the other from the dish.
Seems like you cant get freesat and JSTV just from the dish. Is that because for JSTV it has to point 13ºeast and Freesat is pointing somewhere else?
 
If you want the full range of Freeview but via satellite then you are going to have to buy a Sky subscription. Several major channels that are Free on DTT are pay on satellite - Dave being one of the major ones. In that case you will have to have a Sky box, which rules out the one box route immediately.

Yes, for aerial and satellite, the least complicated way would be to have two cables running down to the box.

Yes, JSTV and Freesat can be received on one dish, but not the regular setup, it would need two LNBs on it one for each satellite, or you could use two dishes.

The Hotbird 6 /13º setup does have various free channels but non that are part of the usual freeview line up.
 
Freeview is Terrestrial Digital stuff (through an Aerial), so of course the Hotbird Satellite cluster doesn't carry any of it.

I suspect there is a terminology issue here!

Not quite sure why you have told us that, i.e have you misunderstood something? It won't have, because the Freeview type channels i.e Freesat are on 28E not 13E.
 
To be honest with you Flydigital you have two options


the simplest solution will be to have two boxes.

DTT via the aerial for the full range of UK Freeview channels

satellite kit for the JSTV reception only.

slightly more complicated

multi sat reception setup

13E for the Japanese channel

28E for the Freesat service, and have the free channels losing access anything thats encoded on satellite eg Dave



Satellite has 2 sub-options as well


have 2 boxes if you want full epg on Freesat,

one multisat box with Conax capabilities if you can do with nothing more than now & next on the epg.

I have to disagree on this one, the best option would be to get something like the Vu Duo, you can have a fixed dish at 13e and add a USB DTT stick to the Duo for Freeview.
Make sure you do your homework on which USB DTT to get as not all are supported but BlackHole Team are working all the time to add more devices.
