Freeview and Sky yes or no?

My kids have been pushing for sky in there bedrooms for some time but me being so tight I will not pay the extra £10 per month for multi room. I have set up there TV with the Sky eye as they are happy watching the same channel(for now) but in there own rooms. The feed was taken from the extension TV room and split in the loft with a distribution amplifer. My question is when they get bored and start to argue over the TV (very soon)can one of them switch back in any way to freeview that is built in throught there TV's or is this not possible. I saw some gadget in screwfix for about £60.00 but not sure if it would do the job. Any help appreciated.

Have you got your existing TV Aerial plugged into the Sky box?

Yes, if you have the TV aerial lead going into the $ly box and then out (through TV out 1) to the main TV then TV Out 2 will also have the Freeview signals to upstairs.
 
Thanks for the very quick replys.

Think I may have connected this incorrectly for this to work. Instead of running more coaxial I used the existing aerial connection and connected this to my RF out2 on the back of the sky box to allow the 9V DC to power the sky eye. The coaxial feed was thenconnected to My Distribution Amplifier(in loft) which I then split to both there rooms.

I'm kinda getting lost here with the aerial connection to my sky box.

I thought the freeview would have to be connected to the back of there TV's to recieve Freeview. The aerial socket in the kids tv's is obviously taken up with the sky eye.

The Eye will pass RF (Otherwise you couldn't even get the distributed Sky Channels!.

"Sky" will be on whatever RF Channel you chose for it and the Freeview Channels will be on other RF Channels as appropriate.

So any TV with a Freeview Tuner should find the Channels quite happily after a scan.
 
I think I am digging a deeper hole for myself.

I really do not get this. Not sure what is meant with RF channels(Radio Freequency Channels).I have just tried to retune my daughters TV to get sky from downstairs.

I tune on Channel 1(says ATV Mono) from air choice on tv menu then I scan on analogue. It finds all sky channels after 96% says one channel.

From there how do I then find Freeview. I have tried scanning on Digital on Channel 2 but finds nothing. All it dies is wipes sky channels from Channel 1.

The signal from the $ly box is analogue and Freeview is digital so you need to find an option to tune digital only on the TV. It's also possible that you haven't wiped the first tune out with your second tune. You may have flipped the TV into digital only mode and you just need to press a button to engage the analogue mode. The $ly signal may still be there.

We need a bit more clarity on how you've got your cables connected. Where does the connection from the TV aerial go to now? Is there anything connected to the TV aerial in of your downstairs TV or the TV aerial in of your $ly box?
 
The only connection I have is coaxial connected into RF out 2 on my skybox(from the loft). This use to be connected to my booster in the loft for freeview. I have not run anymore coaxial as I thought I could just use this cable.

I have a Pace Skydigibox with Tv scart going to my TV, Dish Input cable from satellite, Telephone Line and 230v power lead.

I have aerial in and RF out 1 with no connections on the box.

The coaxial in the loft - I have connected to a distributuion amplifer and run coaxial to both my kids room which is connected to a sky eye then connected to there TV's.

So, to summarise, the TV aerial is no longer connected to anything. The Digibox has RF2 out going up to the DA in the loft which then feed the TVs in the two kids bedrooms.

I sthat correct?
 
Nope!

Connect the TV Aerial to RF In on the Sky Box.

Magic will happen.
 
I will have to run more coaxial then from the aerial in the loft as i have used the original aerial connection for the sky eye to work.

So I should have one connection to RF2 out this is my analogue(sky channels)

Aerial connection to RF1 In. This will be my freeview?
 
Yes - except the Aerial goes to RF In, not RF1 (which is another output, but without power for magic eye)

The Freeview is passed through to RF2 along with the Sky Channel that is selected.

So as far as the other Tellies are concerned, they should work just the same as if the Freeview (Terrestrial) Aerial is connected directly. Just scan.
 
That is the simplest (and ultimately cheapest) way to solve the problem even if you do have to run an extra length of co-ax down.

It is possible to buy a box to replace the DA (or work with it) which combines all the signals in the loft and passes the Magic Eye sigals and power. Unfortunately I can't give exact details as I've only read about them and never had to use one.
