I know that discussing DTT here on this site, never mind the Freesat section, is a little out of place but I hope you don't mind. I was just wondering if anybody knows if the Freeview signal in Northern Ireland is going to be increased. I am in the free state and the signal is not strong enough to travel down to where I am.

M8 Im 6 miles outta Belfast and I cant get it lol. Im not completley sure but I think its only the Divis Tranmitter that carries it at the minute. Been told 2012 b4 my transmittter (Carnmoney) starts.

BBC Freeview site says 2012 for all of the North. Some people around the border can get it but I would say in Navan even after 2012 you would struggle. A lot would depend on the height of your location and your aerial system. If you have the possibility of putting up a dish get an FTA satellite receiver and you will get everything on Freeview and much more.

Good while since I heard our wee country called the Free State lol.

Yes, I heard over on boards.ie _www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=40 allright that it would be 2012 before the signal increases. I thought maybe something might happen before then though but obviously not. Thanks for the reply Tom. I'm surprised you cannot get it. I would have thought that Belfast and its hiterlands would have been serviced be before then.

I do have Freesat allright but I was led to believe that there are a few stations such as Fiver and Sky Sports News on Freeview, which are not on Freesat.

Im blocked by Carnmoney Hill from getting the Belfast Transmitter, houses 400 yards east can pick it up fine as they just clear the side of it

Hi, I live in Donegal near Letterkenny and have been getting Freeview for nearly five years from the Limavady transmitter. The signal will be boosted in 2012 on November 30th by a factor of about 18. In Navan you are just too far from the transmitters to get it at the moment, and even after the switch I would think it most unlikely. Do you receive BBC / ITV etc. at the moment? If so do you know from which relay transmitter? This info will give you some idea of your chances in four years time. I would suggest you get Freesat and don't worry yourself about Freeview.
When the Republic goes digital at the same time there's a chance that some of their muxes will carry British programming on the more modern MPEG 4 system so you will be able to get hi-def pictures before most of the UK terrestrial audience does, sit tight I say.

I have heard from a good source that Five, Fiver & Five US will all go Free to Air as has Five as soon as the capacity on the old Astra 28.2 is there. Could happen tomorrow or next year!!!!
Nice to hear the Wee county being called the Free State (he isnt a local), but never realised there was anything else in Louth except the Town & the Quay!!!!
Go on the Lilywhites!!!! All the way from Germany..............M:WM:W

Hi I live in south Down and cannot recieve any UK FTA channels without a dish. I know years ago we did not get channel 4 until 1986 and the reception was terrible! We can't get FIVE either and it was launced over 10 years ago. It is probably to do with the mountains around here. I can pick up RTÉ digital radio and very weak BBC digital radio as well now but Freeview is a long way off!
