Freeze when fast-forwarding...

Hello,

I found out what looks very much like a "bug" in a recent firmware update.

When I fast-forward at a speed of x30, on certain recordings, the image freezes and jumps back to a particular point of the recording. It happened already a few times, only with x30 FF, only on a few recordings.

Have you experienced this before?
 
is it at 17/34/51 minutes or so in the recording?
have you upgraded your disk?
is your capacity running low?

I've seen talk of it over at digitalspy.co.uk .... unofficially termed the "17-minute bug".

Unmodified machines do get it but they're usually running quite full....also it seems to have arrived after the DR software was delivered to the machines.
 
Thank you Leee! I'm glad that I am not alone... Yes, when it happens, I get back in the recording at minute 17!

But, yes, I upgraded my disk several months ago and had no problem whatsoever since then.

And this problem/bug appeard recently and possibly since the duar recording software update.

I am going to look further into this. If anyone has an advice, I'm all ears...

This "bug" effects recordings when you power up the box, so if you leave it powered all the time it should be a low level problem.

What appears to happen is during startup the box checks all recordings and occationally corrupts them.

When I have to reboot my box the first thing I do is check the end of all recordings deleting any which jump to 17 mins instead of the end.

Most people claim you have to reformat your drive in services to get rid of the problem, but I never have and it does not seem to make the problem worse. The main factor appears to be how full you disk is when the power up occurs, the fuller it is the more recordings that get corrupted.

Hey! Thanks for your feedback. Certain forums are very prolific in discussions about this bug, why it happens and how to get rid of it. But most of it are theories. As far as I have read, there is no official explanation and nobody convinced me of a possible solution. Your answer seems to summarize pretty well the situation. I for one have tried most of what others suggested to no avail.

What I found is that a) the bug appears after a power-up and B) that by leaving the digibox with time the bug disappears.

At least for now...
