Hi All, I have a Panasonic sky digibox that im using to receive Sky digital. I am thinking of buying a Strong 4155 E to receive a microwave signal that they are transmitting in my area, I have checked all the tech spec. on the Strong against the tech speck of the Panasonic they both say in the book “receiver frequency range 950 to 2150 Mhz” this is the bit I don’t understand. The frequency of channels on the FTA are:

9295000 Khz

pol V

FEC auto

Sybol rate 16000 KHz

I have the antenna in place (all lined up) I have switched off the LNB power and connected the Panasonic to the antenna BUT when I try to enter that frequency it will not let me enter anything below 10.700 GHz but in the book it says “receiver frequency range 950 to 2150 Mhz”. Can someone please explain this to me?

Thanks
Steve

Hello Kevin

I will probably be corrected, but the answer I think lies in the difference between the signal 'seen' by the LNB on your Satelite Sytem, and the frequency to which it converts the signal to pass it down the cable to you DigiBox.

In this instance, the "10.700 GHz " is the frequency at which the signal is transmitted from the satellite to the LNB, and the "950 to 2150 Mhz" is the frequency at whch the LNB [having converted it] passes it on to your STB for detection etc.

Wait now till one of our experts tells me I have got it all wrong!

Hi, yes i can see what your getting at but i dont underrstand this 950 to 2150 MHz. as i said it will not let me enter anything lower than 10.700. I have also switched off the LNB power in the set up so why if the LNB power is off does it not let me enter the frequency i want to use

Steve

(not Kevin, nokevin come form a joke years ago about a Nokia & kevin, ended up as nokevin, dot ask me why?)

It won't let you enter the frequency, because it is outside the parameters of the box.

The LNB (Low Noise Block Converter) steps the signal dow to a managable frequency. If you are telling the digibox that you have a universal LNB, the low band frequency will be 9,750,000Khz, the receiver will do the calculation and tell you that the minimum frequency you can receive is 10,700, that being the local oscillator frequency of the LNB 9,750,000Khz, plus the bottom frequency threshold of the digibox 950,000Khz.

To receive these lower frequencies, you will require a specialist LNB/Antenna.

Hi Thanks, i have the LNB power in the set up off, so why will it not let me enter a lower frquency if there is no LNB conected. i have tried to enter a LNB lower that 9.75 but again it will not let me. i have a special microwave antenna contect at mo.

Sorry Steve, but I can't get to grips with your figures, what frequency in Ghz or Mhz do they transmit on?

The Sky digibox is probably the worst one you could try to experiment with, as it has bespoke software and will not allow much other than basic settings.

To enable an incoming signal of say 1.6Ghz, then you must set the LO of the LNB to 000000

be honest with you im not 100%, i manged to get hold of a strong 4155e that they use. I plugged it into my PC via cable and uploaded the settings, when i look at the list there has been a Sat added and it resd the following:

frequency KHz 9295000
pol V
fec inner auto
simbol rate 16000

can you tell me anything from that?

Thanks
Steve
