fringe reception problems saturday 27th August

Hi All,

Did anyone else in the uk experience problems with their fringe receptions last night? I have a set up on the nordic beam of 5'E but i lost all of the horizontal tp's last night. I have a 1.8metre dish setup on this and have had a solid picture. I also noticed that there were a couple of the sky channels that were also breaking up. There wasn't alot of cloud cover but i wasn't sure if there was any other atmospheric issue that may have caused it.

There is an exploding Supernova up there right now - started last Tuesday and will be visible (in UK at least) by Tuesday. Bound to have some effect on propagation, I should think.

Remember it doesnt need to be raining at your location to affect the downlinked signal. Heavy water laden cloud on the slant path out to your south east will absorb the signal as well.
 
I far prefer my explanation. I mean, rain is just so .................. so, COMMON!
 
With Binoculars, from Tuesday, in the direction of the Great Bear constellation.
 
Could this be why I`m loosing quite a lot on 19.2 after 11pm most nights?

A lot of pay TV goes as does a lot of the FTA TV too, I was blaming skew or something I`d done last time I was tinkering with the dish but this would make more sense because after I was tinkering I was getting more from the arc i.e. 23.5 and 39e

Not sure when I started loosing channels but it was within the last week or so, since I was last up my ladder, but cant think if it was before or after those nasty thunder storms over the german uplink station or not

Just hope we get a clear spot in the heavens ...here in Manchester ..
Normally the cloud and rain is all but continuous....and managed to miss almost every cosmic event so far due to crappy weather.

Yup, will be looking out.

Great Bear is the easiest of spots in clear weather, but not sure exactly what the supernova will look like.


PS: Cosmic events? What, like a Black Sabbath gig at the G-Mex?

Ah yes of course. Thank you. Hopefully skies here will remain clear for this 'cosmic event'.....(retires to practice chanting and sitting crosslegged.....or isn't it that sort of cosmic event??)
 
Pete, at our age, sitting cross-legged is almost "de rigeur".
 
Even in this light polluted environment ....am fairly sure is more or less overhead but declined about 20 degrees ...looking North ....around midnight ...
But happy to be corrected on this for my own education ...assuming I'm wrong...
...and the cross legged thing ..
Yep can still get into the lotus at 53 ...
Just can't get out again without help..
