Frustrated New Dreambox 500 user needs some help

Hi all think I am going mad. Sorry if this is in the wrong place here but can't find it if it is in here!

I am trying to get my head around cams!
I downloaded a rar file for Mgcamd .. followed intruction and ftp'd to var/tmp
found it on the dreambox with blue button and did manual install.
(I have tried it with a few other cams as well and all seemed good)
However can I find the damn thing anywhere in all my menu's NO WAY!!!
Oh I have a 500s running enigma

Please Please help me someone )(-red
 
Welcome to the forum :)

Can't help you with your problem as I use Gemini and have never used the default image.

In Gemini it's Menu > setup > Blue panel > auto cam setup
 
Yes is the same in enigma exactly but the only option is Common Interface

This is what is making me crazy!!!
 
In the default cam: dropdown list there are no options other than Common Interface?

This suggests the cam install has failed. How much space is left in var? In a non-MaxVar image on a 500s you'll be lucky to install more than 2 emus.

Where did you download the emus? Are they .rar or .tar? If .tar (might be tar.bz) just FTP them straight into /tmp - don't unpack them.
 
No it was a tar.gz I believe and I did ftp straight.
Not sure where I downloaded from think it was UMP.
I have 464.5k free in /var used 74%

Have you still got the original enigma installed? if so you need to change that to something like gemini maxvar and then you can download the emus from the blue panel.
 
The method installation is fine (based on my experience of Gemini)- that's how I've sometimes done it in the past.

Does the amount of space in /var change after you install an emu? But I don't know if emus work with Enigma. As suggested, are you able to reflash it with another image e.g. Gemini 4.1?
 
Thanks for that have re-flashed it and was working fine . Now the only probllem I have is the dreambox has now switched off and cannot get any power to it!!

Did you try to unplug it from the mains, wait few minutes and then plug the cord to the mains and see what happens ?

If this doesn't help, try to reflash again with Gemini 4.0, if this is still possible since you say that you cant get any power.

Please let us know which image version were you using when the power problem occurred.
Also, is the 500S made in China or Original German.
