There are reports over on the DS forum that recording is now working on some FreeSatFromSky boxes.

Might be worth giving it a try to se if it works for you.

I have a FSFS in my Vu+ receiver and at present a spare DRX890 Sky receiver - might give it a try later.

Well I tried it and could not get it to work - even initialised a new install that updated the CA entitlements on the card but it still didn't allow recording to work. :(

Maybe another try later.

Highly unlikely , although i would welcome it .

Majority of basic package subscribers stay with sky just for the recording facility . Take that away and there is no reason to pay monthly anymore .

Many people see it as a perk .

It is almost certainly a glitch - otherwise it would cost Sky many millions of pounds in back duty. The Sky+ boxes were imported as receivers (on a lot lower duty than PVRs) as the Sky+ features are not functional without a subscription and this has been verified in court.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Yep, only other way around avoiding duty is selling the box with recording facilities, but no actual hard drive (i.e. requires external drive), which is common in Spain and France (less so UK - not sure why).

Or import the stb minus HDD and fit the HDD in Europe - as I believe Humax used to do.

Is the idea behind higher duty on PVRs to compensate rights holders?
