Hope I have this in the right section.
Can I upgrade my FTA receiver to receive subscription channels.

If your FTA receiver has a CI slot then, providing you buy the correct CAM to go in - yes.

No CI slots? No chance!

My receiver is a Comag no slots.Can I add on a card reader.

The receiver is a Comag no slots.Any add ons available.

As far as I know it's not possible to engineer in some CI slots, or even a built-in CAM, to a receiver that wasn't designed with them in mind to start off with.

go and buy a manhattan plaza box,it combines FTA and CI slots + its a very inexpensive brilliant piece of equipment.youll also like the blind scan feature :-)

Comags can have unoffiucial s/w loaded (patched) which will open certain pay tv providers

You need to state which Comag you have. The FTA2CI and the SL55 can both be patched with unofficial software that allows a few encrypted channels to be watched. I think there is a patch for the Porty1 but there isn't a patch for the Porty2 - - - yet :)

On the downside it is labour intensive as the keys change often and you usually lose some other box functions as well.
