HI,
i am still struggling with this, could you tell me the easiest way to copy the bables.xml to the box. Do I flash the gemini image first and then ftp the file or what? Sorry a bit confused. I flashed the gemini but got no channels which I assume is why I need the cables.xml from neutrino. Is there a pc program that I can use to extract the xml from the image.
Many thanks sham.

You need to have a read in the Idiot Guide. But, yes, first you put an image on, then you sort out the network connection and FTP whatever you need from the computer to the box. Use Dreamboxedit. Alternatively, you can download a set of settings directly from the blue button addons.

Hi all,
I am having a problem now while trying to ftp I know what I have to do and am trying to copy yhe cables.xml to the dreambox from my pc, all is connected and when I start to transfer the file (33kb) it starts off with a transfer rate of 16kbps and then drops down to 0kbps and stops and the file is not copied, anyone got any ideas.
I am so close to getting everything done it is so annoying.
Thanks
Sham..

Hi,
Just a quick update on this.
I can FTP from the Dreambox to the pc but not from the pc to the dreambox.
I really need to copy the cables.xml file to the dreambox after I copy the gemini image across.
Please can someone help me , I have tried 4 different Sat forums and no one has even replied.
I am desperate to get this working.
Thanks
Sham.

Have you checked you have enough space left in the Dreambox?, If you have installed a few emulators/plugins this may be your problem. If you go to the system info i should tell you how much free space you have.

Your ftp connection must be ok if you have uploaded from the Dreambox to the pc.

How much is plenty? It needs more than 10% free space or it does strange things e.g. when you check var it needs to be less than 90% full (from the blue panel).

What FTP program are you using? All the FTP details are correct? Try it with a 1k file as well.

How do I check it from the blue panel?
I will try a smaller file and see what happens.
Its definitely not an FTP problem as I can copy from dreambox to pc so I know everything is ok there.
I will check smaller file and see what happens.
Thanks

looks like I have 876kb free in var
Does that seem about right?
Is there any files that I don't need that I could delete to make some space?
For example some card sharing stuff (which I won't be using)
Cheers.

You can delete anything in /tmp

876kb is loads.

Try FTPing to /tmp as well as the folder you're FTPing to may be read-only?

Try it with an FTP program e.g FileZilla as you'll have to enter the details again and it will show you any errors messages.

thanks will try filezilla.
Don't think it is read only as I could copy from that folder.
Thanks for the help.
I hope this fixes the reception issue I am having after all this hassle......
Thanks again.

Copying FROM is not the issue and you could still do this if the folder is read-only (the clue is in the description...).

Copying FROM means you can read from that folder.

Being unable to copy TO that folder suggests read-only i.e. no write permissions.

Are you trying to overwrite an existing file?

Did you trying FTPing a file to /tmp?

going to try now.
I am in the middle of watching the snooker.
Gonna setup the laptop now, copy over gemini 290, then try and copy the cables.xml file over to the tmp folder and see if it works. I am going to use filezilla, will let you know how i get on in about 10 minutes.
Thanks a million for your time, I really appreciate it...

Ok just tried it with filezilla, exactly the same thing happening.
It transfers about 3kb over and slowly timesout, just say tranfer error #1
on filezilla, gonna try a smaller file , tried sending cables to tmp folder , same thing happening, starts to transfer at 16kb, drops to 8, 4, 3, 2, and goes to 0 and stops. I will lose my mind if I dont sort this out today...
Gonna try another few things while I am waiting for your reply.
Thanks.

I got a file that was 989bytes to copy over but thats about it.
I defineitely have loads of space left as I cleared stuff from temp.
I am at a loss as to what to do next I have tried everything at this stage.
Sorry to be such a pain in the butt.

Can you be a bit clearer in your descriptions? A 968 byte file worked. Did you try a larger file? Did it fail? What FTP program did you try? What error messages did you get (if any)?

/tmp is not /temp

Try using dos to FTP the file from your PC to the Dreambox and tell us the error message that you get (if any).

run > cmd > ftp 10.0.0.8 (replace with your Dreambox IP address and login

to get HELP up (so you can see FTP commands if you don't know them type help

I think FTP command you need is put

cd = change directory (dreambox)
lcd = change directory (computer)
ls = list files

so if c:/temp is your PC folder and /tmp is the Dreambox folder, at the FTP prompt type

lcd /temp
cd /tmp
put test.txt

This will make the local folder c:/temp

The Dreambox folder is /tmp

and it puts a file called test.txt from the PC folder to the Dreambox folder.

Really small files seem to work up to 5 or 6kb.
I was using filezilla, error just said transfer error (read 2 replies ago).
I did try tmp, sorry if I called it temp.
Will try through dos now.
Thanks.

Hi,
Sorry for bothering you again but I have had some luck.
I found a newer neutrino image which I installed and copied the ca ble s.xml from the tuxbox folder to var/etc using the tuxbox commander.
It worked, the picture is almost crystal clear but I have one problem, only about have the channels I did have are available. I think the image was neutrino vodka or something. Have you any ideas?
Thanks.
Sham.

ps It seems to be a all of the FTA channels that are missing...
