Just read an article in the latest (July 2020) Radio Enthusiast mag, page 10, saying that fake SDR receivers are on the market including SDR PlayRSP1, AirSpy & HACKRF - so it appears that you may need to be careful when buying such units.

Maybe you don't get affected by the heat like I/we do - lucky you! - but it makes "doing anything" a real struggle (especially when you have a "few other" aches & pains)

Enthusiast/user/amateur.....

How many other 'radio' magazines turn up on your doorstep in a plain brown envelope ?

Unwarranted sarcasm - again:  - Radio User may not be your "cup of tea" but I find it quite an interesting read, especially in these troubled times.

PS: many mags turn up in white (rarely brown - not had one like that for a long time!:-rofl2) paper wrappers nowadays for environmental reasons:D

Sarcasm (again) ? , from memory the original founders behind Practical Wireless, established almost 80 years , got ripped off, then joined Warners rather than show they could bring to the man in the shack useful kit without the baggage of the major shareholder.

I bought Everyday Electronics for at least a decade before realising there were three times as many adverts than actual useful pages in the magazine, the majority of which had nothing to do with the serious hobbyist with a soldering iron.

So much dilution, I walked with my feet.

Then again, it was the comment 'the heat had gotten to you' that triggered it.

"Times have changed" and, whilst Radio User does have quite a few adverts, the major proportion of the content is current and historical articles with a lot of interesting and informative stuff - maybe you ought to take a look at a current/recent copy before commenting in such a very negative manner on something about which you have little actual current knowledge .

PS: my comment about the "heat" related purely to the typo in my 1st post!

Argh thought it was my never ending moaning to magazines that caused the change :-rofl2. I find paper wrappers protect magazines from damage better than plastic when being forced through sprung letterbox flaps, so a welcome change indeed:Y

PS: everyone appears to have forgotten the original point of this thread - which was to point out that there appear to be a number of "fake brand" SDR modules on the market, and thus people need to be very careful from whom they buy these.

Putting the glove down for a moment, it would have been useful to provide detail (or perhaps a screenshot ) of the magazine article , rather than just a statement that there might be fake SDR devices out there .

How does one distinguish from the genuine, silkscreen, packaging, originating auction/supplier detail or address, or is it a question of running one up / dismantling to find out ?
