Just my personal preference, i think Gemini is a pile of ****, not the way it looks or feels because thats good.

The fact of reliability and steadyness is crap.

Everyday i turn my telly on to find "Dish moving to 5e" message on the screen. Even though i specificaly left it on that satellite the night before, also every now and then i have to reboot the box because it crashes, upon rebooting it hangs on the Gemini project logo, and takes a few minutes to load to then be presented with the "satellite moving to 5e" forever in a day.. i then have to tell the box to move to 5e which i know its already lined up to as i was watching during reboot..

Ive re flash the box from scratch countless times to only have the same specific boring problems.

Now it has come to the point whereas either the image or the box has to go. As for dms it has put me off and would stop me wasting my money on future products.

But if there is an image which is similar which does the same things and posibly more i will give a try..

i dont want to slam the box itself as from what ive read it does loads of excellent things.. which i havent been able to do with this image..

Can anyone recommend??
 
Don't know Yeshi, I had in the past tried every image there was, and in the end I only use Gemini. I actually use the MaxVar, which needs to be loaded up with a null modem cable - but the advantage is, for my 5620, that I can fit, 4 cams without overloading the VAR.
The problem with the dish moving: Set the box to a sat that you use a lot, and after you got it reboot the box immediately. It should then come on to this sat, even if you have to reboot again. I think the Dreambox likes to move to the last sat it had on when it was last rebooted. Try it out and let me know.
 
WHy don't you try another image e.g. Colloseum?

If that gives you problems as well you'll know something is physically broken; if it's stable keep Colloseum.

Mine does it if I'm on 28.2, select a channel on 19.2 and while the dish is moving select a channel on 28.2 or 30W; it hangs forever.
 
Well, Gemini is, like U said :)

Had some problems myself with it. Reboot and re-start

There are a few good one´s to test, Nabilosat and RU or Doppie Polar

I think U better test a few, when U have problems with the setup U loose the feeling of the set and don´t like to try the box

Another thing i noticed, when updating the keys i loaded the tar file into the temp.. but wouldnt install under blue button.. on the readme it says that it doesnt work on all images.. but doesnt say which it does.
 
I find that if I have been watching a decrypted channel standby, when I wake it up if the keys have changed I get the message "turning to 19.2e" for example, the dish however does'nt move, I just choose a clear channel, update the keys, and averything is ok, this does'nt happen if the keys have'nt changed. maybe its a cam thing.
ps I'm using Gemini and ccam 1.71
 
does it on a channel that doesnt change keys.. erm.. fta channel..

im going to try the PLi image first.. ill post up in a week .. what i think :)

I am running RU at the moment and then I use Gemini Works very well :)
 
Cheers PCD will try that one tommoro, Mrs is doing one up to scotland tommoro, will have house to myself to program my box as much as i want :)
 
Well, i tried The latest pli image.

i must say the look and feel of this is much better than gemini, its allot faster to load and much easier to use.

One thing i found was setting up an external hdd was much easier to do than gemini.. mainly because it would never work on gemini. 20 mins on the pli image and bang it was recording..

To sum up all this the dm500 is crap. dont like it.. to slow for me. yeah for other people its perfect.. but me.. its just too slow and none responsive.

I must add aswell the remote was more responsive on the pli and on the gemini.. seemed on the gemini i had to press the buttons hard..

Ive fell out with this box.. now i was a box with pvr feature. im not paying the kind of money dream media want.. so its back to the tm.. the 9100 seems a nice lookin box.. linux reciever so i wont be changing much..

Yeah I tried the pli, has some nice points but seting up the Gemini for recoding is much faster. Also, for some reason I get problems loading the pli image backups I made through the flashwizard...
