This is breaking news and I have no idea what the hell is happening at the moment. Ive just spotted this announcement on the Geo news feed on 28E (due to launch onto Sky UK on Monday!)

Can one of our members who speak Urdu(?) have a look and see if they can find out wtf is going on - Is it the whole Geo Network, or just the European operation or just Geo News

Is it the whole network, one channel or what? Is the ban temporary or permanent?

Its been confirmed that the Geo network,based in Dubai,has been ordered to shut down,by the United Arab Emirates authorities.
So that means goodbye to the Geo channels,here in the UK,as well as the rest of Europe.,as well as the US.
When the actual shutdown is happening,is not known,nor whether if it a temporary or permanent ban,at this stage.

Thers a ticker running along the bottom of Geo UK saying the Pakistan authorities have closed down Geo news. Outside Pakistan Geo TV & AAG will continue without news, current affairs or analysis programming.
 
It's closing cuz of Musharraf! He doesn't want his people to know what's going on in the real world. Now he's banning TV stations too! Unbelievable! So unfair on the pakistani people!!

Yes you are right bro...! This lines were said by geo news too.
 
Whatever the rights and wrongs of the situation lets try to keep politics off the forum. It only leads to arguments and bad feelings.
 
Its not just Geo News or Aryoneworld who are getting the axe!,There are more then 5 other channels. This is because some of the Media Execitives refuse to sign the new media Regulation Bill which was passed by Musharraf within the past two weeks, its all down to censorship what is allowed to be viewed in the country.Since Pakistan does not have any independant Regulatory body like OFCOM/ITC ,so the next best thing is from the army! lol :D

P.S New bill passed only 3 days ago which is in effect now, pakistani people cannot import/purchase any satellite recievers,decoders,dishes,transmitters etc.. without a need of a permit (PERMA), Bet he saying since all channels are being closed down, why bother with these equipment :D
