Hello,

Sorry if this doesn't entirely make sense I'm very new to Satellite TV. I live in the UK and have just got new dish installed to astra 19.2. I also have a Technisat S6 HD+ box. I set top box came with a card for 6 month subscription to the German HD+ channels which goes in via a credit card sized slot in the box. Apologies if this sounds silly but if I connect the box to the internet mainly to do updates could the subscription card get deactivated as it would pick up a UK IP address? Also when the subscription runs out would I need a CAM or could I somehow get the card renewed?

Welcome to the forum, well with VPNs being very much in use these days, it would not serve a company's purpose to start canceling subscriptions based upon an IP address. At the end of the day, they want your money.
 
You can get updates from the Technisat website and apply them via a usb stick. If you connect it to the internet I think at the worst you won't be able to access some streaming services, but is it worth the risk? Wherever you sourced the receiver and card from should be able to assist with extending the subscription.
 
When the subscription runs out, you just go to the HD+ website (hd-plus.de) and choose the option to extend your subscription (HD+ Verlängerung). Then you enter the serial number from the HD+ card in the boxes provided on the page, and choose a subscription length (monthly or 12 months prepaid - the latter costs 70 €, but avoids the possible chance of them checking each month that you're not abroad).

After this you have to enter some personal details (surprisingly few! No address needed!), and pay either using a credit card or PayPal, then you're done and your card will update in your current receiver when tuned to one of the HD+ channels, extending its validity period. The page itself after paying will tell you what channel to tune your receiver to while they send the update signal.

I have one of the older cards that had been inactive/out of subscription for around 12 months, and I re-activated it in this way a couple of months ago here in the UK with no problem.

Not sure about connecting the box to the internet, but I would say they don't seem too bothered about IP addresses considering I used no VPN or anything to update my card. As others have said, the most likely will just be that you can't access any geo-restricted on-demand content from the box.
 
Hi, the HD+ card does not give you "new" channels. What you get is free TV in HD quality. So if you are happy with RTL, Pro7 etc. in SD quality, don't bother. The card only unlocks GERMAN free TV HD channels.
