German launch for premium MTV
MTV Networks has launched two new German premium pay-TV channels, MTV Entertainment and NICK Premium on DTH platform Premiere Star on Astra (19.2° East).
Together with MTV Music, which has been on board since Premiere Star’s launch on September 1, the package now contains three channels compiled by US media company Viacom’s German subsidiary.
MTV Entertainment screens MTV formats such as Pimp My Ride, Viva la Bam and Wild Boyz. The majority of the shows are made available on the pay-TV channel before they are screened on MTV’s free-to-air service, for example Real World Sydney from this week or the series premiere of Life of Ryan in early 2008. Additionally, four hours of rock music with video clips from the 60s through today will be screened daily.
NICK Premium shows TV premieres of shows and series from the portfolio of children’s channel NICK (Nickelodeon in the UK) before they are screened free-to-air on the main service, including Spongebob Squarepants, Jimmy Neutron and Avatar: The Last Airbender. From December 17 the German premiere of the new series of Wonder Pets!, Dora the Explorer and Danny Phantom, amongst others, will be screened. Both commercial-free channels complement non-stop music service MTV Music, which screens video clips of top European chart hits and the current music scene.
Altogether, Premiere Star, available in Germany and Austria, now comprises 17 channels for an unchanged monthly fee of EUR13.99. The platform, which aims to offer around 20 channels by February 2008, is backed by Premiere, HypoVereinsbank and EM.Sport Media.
