I understand that it is possible and legal to use a secondary unsubsidised sky box and you can swop the one card between each of them without any problems, is this true? If so what is the difference between a subsidised and an unsubsised box?
Thanks

No.Card must be paired to the box.No differences in the boxes other than that the subsidised stb must be connected to a telephone line for 1 year.

Whilst it is possible to use the card to receive non-premium channels in another box, sky, if you're in the 12-month contract, will probably start to ask questions about why your box is acting funny, as the talkback function will probably not work as normal on he main box... :)

Best to get a multiroom sub (£10/month), though you would have to have both boxes hooked up to the same phoneline all the time... :)

Strange a shop offered to sell me one when I was asking for an alternative to a Darkbox and specifically said that it would work and was legal (except using overseas)! I wonder if its some sort of modification?

It is in fact against the Terms and Conditions of your contract to use a Sky sbscription in more than one box. a subsidised box is one that Sky have supplied at a cheap price in return for a minimum subscription contract plus possibly telephone connection although for £25 one off payment this can be ignored. An unsubsidised box is one purchased either from sky at full (non subscription) price or obtained elsewhere.

A Sky subscription card will work in any Sky box for the FTV and non-premium subscription channels (i.e. NOT Sky Movies or Sky Sports) without being paired to that box. Cards are paired to boxes simply by phoning Sky with box and card serial numbers BUT Sky do not take kindly to swapping "pairing" to boxes on more than a very occasional basis without good reason (faulty box going for repair etc)

Thanks for advice, thats what I thought. Will go for an alternative option.

Darkbox is a wise choice m8.

got multi-room few days ago...had no phone line for either box (new house!) engineer said he would enable new card via laptop! (and all would be OK for six weeks til the phone line was sorted)...got main phone line sorted so put main box online...tested and let kids play online paid for (60p a day!) games then swapped card with other box...phone now disconnected (wiring probs!) and all still workin...so seems cards are not paired with any box!...nor need to be connected...do understand that if they check card can be stopped OTA...but alls ok...:toke:

if you dont have both boxes on the same line after a few warning letters sky will charge you a full rate for the second box as they will say they cant be sure that the boxes are in the same house, this is to stop people taking multi room then giveing the second box to someone for a cheaper rate.

As above swapped the Cards now the box is say tis the wrong card for the box...so need to sort the phone line fast...)(-red
