gibertini op100l - what LNB & Feedhorn (another newbie)

Happy new year to all!

Another noobie here looking to get into the world of satellites...

After much research I've decided to plump for a spiderbox 7000hd, subsequently I'm advised to go with a Dark Motor (as they work well together, so I'm lead to believe).

The next step for me is to pick a dish / lnb, was hoping the forums could advise? I'd like to have a good enough setup to pull in nilesat, which i've been told is achievable on a 1m gibby.

.. I'm quite keen on the gibertini op100l, mainly due to it's impressive specs and weight. Have a couple of questions

1) Does anyone know where I can get this dish in black (anthracite) in the UK? I can't seem to find anywhere that does any other than the light grey?

2) Feedhorns / LNB's
a) I have a budget of £60 for these both. Only need a single or dual output at most. Can someone please suggest a pairing that goes well with the aforementioned dish?

b) Can any feedhorn be attached to any LNB and how easy are they to fit together? (totally new to all this!)

Welcome to the forum.

They do a feed for the Gibertini 100 (0.67 f/D), or you could fit an LNBf something like a Black Ultra.
 
I had to get my Anthracite Gib from Germany as no UK seller had them, might be worth ringing one of the board sponsors to see if they can order one in if they routinely sell the grey ones? Best LNB I've tried is the Inverto Black Ultra, it seems to have the edge over the others, mostly marginal but it has the benefit of the long throat which allows some fine tuning of the focal point.
 
I have a Gibertini 1M XP Premium (in brick red!) as part of my multi sat set up. It's focused on 7°W and coupled with a Black Ultra. It does an excellent job, bringing in AB7 24/7 unless it's really pouring down. Most vertical T/P's from Nilesat are available too during the day, with Horizontal T/P's coming in about 9PM. (note, I'm considerably further south than Northants though!)

I got mine from HM Sat in Germany but as aceb says, try some UK suppliers first......if all else fails, you could always spray paint it....

so, what's the difference between a feedhorn and a LNB, such as the black ultra?

The feedhorn, as I've understood it is the piece where the dish focuses on; i.e the top of the "microphone"? The LNB is the box bit where your coax will plug into?

I've read good things about the black ultra, is this a sealed unit in that I can't take it's "microphone" bit off and attach a feedhorn?

Have I got the totally wrong end of the stick?
 
There are two basic LNB types: Generraly for offset dishes up to 1.2m use is made of what you will recognise as an LNB already - in actual fact these are properly called LNBF, the F referring to the fact that the Feedhorn is integral to the LNB.

For large dishes (Prime Focus), a C120 type LNB is generally used and these have a Feedhorn which is not an integral part of the LNB.

The Black Ultra is currently only available as an LNBF so you are right in so much as you cannot take the Feedhorn off!
 
aceb - I've seen a couple of suppliers in Germany that have in black; for 70EUR - any ideas how much shipping is/was to the UK? I can't find it on the sites without committing to an order.

With HM-Sat in Germany (which is the supplier I normally use), the cost works out out to about €88 delivered to the UK.
 
Sorry - to clarify - is that 88Eur for the dish AND delivery together? Surely not?! :-/

The final pricing from dealers in Germany used to include a last stage via ParcelForce, which meant a reasonable chance the dish would arrive more like a pancake than a parabola.

The last two I have had delivered have come with a City Link courier, and all have been fine.
 
Thanks sonnetpete; It's ridiculous that I could get a dish delivered from Germany cheaper than what I could do here in the UK!

one last question from me then: - what's an "acceptable" price for a motorised install & stb / usacls configuration? I'd be supplying all my own kit other than t&k brackets & coax .. have had one quote only so far (£190) as most of the local companies don't do motorised installs
