Dose any one know how the gnome work? Is there a transmitter thet comes with it? I Take it I won't be able to listen to the radio while the wife watches the telly.

I'll tell you tomorrow Robbie, fitting one in the afternoon. :)

Certainly there is a transmitter, it connects via the audio phono outputs and the RS232 plug I believe. :)

PS. and you will not be able to listen to anything different. :)

Thanks Rolf, so it will still work for us way out side the foot print..!! ??

Yes, it will work with whatever channels you can receive, just ordered one for my sister in France as well. :)

Is there a minimum package that you have to be subscribed to?

Not according to the website, in fact they say it is Ok with a Freesat card, but i know that another member had problems getting one.

What are they charging for these?

Thanks

Not so sure that it is over priced, particularly when you compare it with video senders, many of which are more than that and don't have an amp and speaker.

hiya all,
the sky gnome definately looks interesting, but!!!!!!, can anybody state categorically that it can be used on a didgybox without a subscription in force, with £20 card or without.
ive looked at reviews on various sites with coflicting opinions on this matter.
sky~s own site says it can, aspointed out by our good friend rolfw,a forum member reports sky have told him it cant, when he was about to order one.
from what ive read on the web i tend towards the view that you dont need a sub ,but ide like to be sure.
Have any members got one yet, who could try it without a card in,then report back to us all,.
I and, i am sure, many of our members would be grateful to you.

Don't see why it shouldn't work on any box, will test it for you in a short while, in the middle of doing something else at the moment. :)

Just tested it on a box without a card in, works fine (had to test it before I took it over to France anyway). :)

Don't think that the concern is whether it works, just that Sky operators have contradicted what is advertised on the website. :)

Many thanks to you rolfw,
just wanted to be sure before i decide yes or no to parting with £70.
if i do get one i will probably rig it up to a seperate box to the two ihave in use at the moment..maybe i could tuck it away in the loft. i have dual lnb in my garage somewhere. 2nd hand boxes can be had for a tenner from a little shop i know in Sheffield that sells off house clearance stuff.

We have has a Gnome running here for 4 weeks, The quality has completely gone. i.e changing channels and the sound quality has gone poor from when we initially installed it. We have spoken to Sky who say that they are working on a software fix. I would hold back until this fix is available.

LOL, well I hope it doesn't let me down and go wrong for you. :)

My Gnome is working well here in Frankfurt on a freesat card. Even better its reception is excellent despite the receiver being at ground level and the base station two floors higher on the other side of the house.:D
