Going to put my 1.2m back up...

...but at my parents. Basically, I received a "handbook" from my block of flats management company and it said that satellite dishes were not allowed to be erected on the balcony - a bit totalitarian but never mind. I haven't actually had anything that said I had to remove it but I think it's a matter of time anyway. Still, it won't be a huge loss(!) as I'll be travelling lots with my work soon and between that and being with my girlfriend when I am actually home, I won't have time to tinker about.

Sooooo, the plan is to erect my 1.2m CM dish back at my parents with Ku and possibly C LNB on the side and stream the thing via Slingbox. They have 1 Mbit upload there so I am hoping it will give watchable pictures. Also, it will give me an option to tinker with it wherever I am in the world - once it's aligned.

The arc won't be as interesting towards the east as it is now, since last time I had my Gibby 1.25m there, it struggled with 53E due to a tree, which has probably grown since. But I am hoping 53E to 45W should be OK. They have a south facing secluded garden and it will be behind the conservatory above the "outhouse" type thing so it won't be in the way much.

Anyway, watch this space for progress (don't you just love these?).

My "Like" does not mean I like restrictions made by landlord at your place. Good luck with streaming solution.

Those rules suck. I don't know what I'd do if it applied to me.... Have you thought about getting a Sqish or something similar to pick up a few of the higher powered satellites from your balcony to supplement the 1.2m via Slingbox (not sure a 1Mb upload will produce a very nice picture although my parents put up with it)?

Good luck with it CJ. Should get a good result with the Sling with those upload speeds.
I have success with 0.516 Mb up.

Possibly, Timo. I am going to keep the dish up for as long as I can - that is, until I am actually instructed to take it down. I tried receiving 30W using a Sky mini-dish from behind my window as it faces 30W almost head on but, although I had reasonable indicated signal strength on my meter, I had no quality at all. I guess these new flats come with some fancy windows which block microwave signals. Also, I would still need to put a squish thing over the gutter as I think the only thing I could realistically receive directly from my balcony with the dish hidden (even the Penta) is 53E and, possibly, 42E and 39E.

Not a huge deal - I hardly ever "watch" stuff on there, especially with Platforma gone. Mainly Russian stuff on IPTV and the usual Sky stuff. It's just a toy after all, isn't it :)

Done a "site survey" yesterday and looks like my arc will be something like 45W to 45E. Beyond 45E, there's a tree, which has certainly grown so no 53E from there. Boo.... Now to wait for a dry day.....

Urgh, such a shame I didn't win that Gregorian dish a few weeks ago - would have been a great DX toy :(
