ok, im new to all this and im looking to buy a cheap stb that can be patched to receive extra channels. does ne1 have any advice on what stb's to look for and any good online shops that sell them? and could ne1 tell me what sort of channels you can get with a patched stb? cheers

That's a tall order - lots of receivers and lots of different views.

If you can answer a few questions first.

What's your budget?
Do you want to receive more than one satellite position?
Do you want only English channels?
How good are you with technical stuff?
Do you have a computer?
Do you have Internet access?

I know it sounds a lot but the more answers the better the response.

Golden rule - no guarantees with this hobby by the time you get your receiver the screens may be black or everything open - who knows, but that's part of the fun!

i dont have a good budget, around £150.
im not too bothered but it would be nice to receive 2 satellite positions
yes i want english channels only
i am fairly good with technical stuff and my grandad is a very technical minded person so im sure he could help me out if i get stuck.

buying a Sky subs is your best bet in that case.

No - they are only for receiving S*y you can add some other free channels at 28.2 east but this can cause problems - so best left as they are.

If you want to try something else do some serching here (option on bar at the top) and then check eBay or the cheap German store in the UK who have supplied boxes that can be patched in the past for under £50.
 
get a technomate ci 1500 they very user friendly, great picture quality and sound plus you can patch them, cost about £100
 
thanks, i will have to save up some more money. is any technomate worth getting? and what models can be patched?

They are well worth getting, try the Tm1500ci+.
The 1000, 2000, 4000, 7000, & 7800 series are all patchable.

i understand the difference between the 1000 and the 1500ci+ is there isnt ne card or cam slot in the 1000. if i get the 1000 will i be missing out on much? sorry for sounding rele stupid but i just dont have a clue wat these cams do exactly.
 
Might not have explained it very well, but my earlier comment was meant to infer that the amount of English away from 28E is severely limited. If you are only interested in English programming, you really want a dish pointing at 28E, and all the Sky pay channels are secure encrypted, so if you want them you get a Sky subscription.

Cheaper is take same technomate clone like Starsat receiver preis about 100USD. Dont know is possibly find it from England but chek sat shops in net. have my Starsat SRX3500CUCI get from Dubai about 1year ago and all works. great.

The amin ones at the moment are the TPS bouquet on 13E, and D+/ TV Cabo on 30W. Theres also half a dozen swiss channel in the SRG bouquet on 13E
The situation can change from day to day, with TPS expected to disappear secure in the not too distant future.

Its important to remember that when you are interested in the pay tv services, your toys you bought at vast expense last week can be so much junk tomorrow.
