3 M dish SKY UK

In Gran Canaria we used a Sky box but only for the free channels.
The system is one large 3M dish feeding three of us.
But it all stopped working which was found to be our old Sky box.
They replaced it with a freestat box but the first one they installed did not pick up the radio channels.
The second one was a ORCHID S10 - RCP-ORS10 freestat box. Which seams to work ok but.
We note that on auto scan all, while it picks up lots of other satellites and there free channels with better signal strengths than on the Astra2. we can not receive/view them. Only the ones on Astra 2
The setting on the box for the LNB is universal.
Is there a simple solution or reason.
We are trying to find ways of improving the quality we receive and variety.

You have fallen into the trap many people find when they use none Sky stuff for the first time.

You may think you are getting numerous satellites but your not :D

The same frequencies are reused on all the satellites right round the orbital arc. If you were getting the UK channels then your dish is aligned to 28E. However if you scan another satellite then the channels will appear where the same transmission parameters appear in the internal data tables OR there will be at least an indication of a signal..

If you want to watch the other satellites you will need additional dishes installing.
 
You are also confusing Freesat with FTA (free to air).

A true Freesat box will "know" that Astra 2 is the correct satellite and will give you a 7 day EPG (electronic programming guide) for the Freesat channels.

An FTA box will just scan in every channel (probably including useless encrypted ones!) and will only give you Now-and-Next information. They are usually programmed with information for other satellites as well which will be wrong if the dish isn't pointing at that satellite.
 
Thanks I think I understand, its that while we received UK free channels at around 40-65% signal strength. The scan shows some free channels on other systems like Eurobird with a signal strengths of up to 90%. But when you try to view it does not. Hence hope to have more choice and reception, but not.
