Hi everybody. First the compulsory "your site is great" comment - easier in this instance cause it's actually true!!
[Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.]

I have a few questions that I'm going to throw into this post. Let me know if it makes more sense to seperate them out.

My current set up is as follows ... I have a Tecnomate T-1000D+ picking up:
13.0E Hotbird
19.2E Astra 1
28.2E Astra 2 / Eurobird

I'm only interested in FTA (or is it FTV?) channels.

My questions are:
1. Are the any other sports channels (english or non-english) that I can pick up.
Currently I only have Dubai Sports. Up to a few weeks ago I was also picking up "Planeta Sport" but for some reason I'm not receiving it now. I enjoy watching basketball so both Dubai and Planeta sport were good for seeing some Euroleague games. Are there any other FTA sport channels that I could view?

2. Would a Sky+ box act as a PVR/Receiver combo for FTA channels?
My TV is wall mounted so the Technomate box is in the attic and I have a remote extender set up to allow me to control the box. We have a Sony hard disk recorder but because the TV is wall mounted we don't have anywhere to set it up. So if I were to move the Technomate into another room, could I put a Sky+ box in the attic and end up with both a satellite receiver and a recorder that I can control from downstairs? The only reason I'm thinking about the Sky+ box is because you seem to be able to pick them up fairly cheaply on ebay.

S_y+ box isn't very friendly when it comes to viewing channels which aren't in the EPG and it won't drive a Diseqc switch to allow you to select others sats. Also, I don't think you have access to the record facility unless you are paying.
 
Planeta Sport had been officialy shut down.

Hovever, if you can tune to 40E, there you can still watch original, uncut version of "SPORT" channel from russia, which has much more sports than "Planeta sport" had.

Signal is in MPEG4/SD.

BombedOne … Yeah the s_y + box won’t record unless you are a subscriber so that idea goes out the window.

I’ve solved my problem for now by sticking the Sony hard disk in the attic also, and controlling it using the same remote sender. So all is well for now.
