Grundig Gufsat01hd Freesat: Problem with non-freesat mode

I have been reading the forums here for quite some time since the start of the TV problems here on the Costa Blanca back in the summer. This is my first post here. I particularly like "the last 24 hours posts" section. I have my own sat system up and running based on reading posts on here and on a local based Torrevieja sat and computer forum.

So a big thanks as we now have TV again from 28.2. I am also getting quite interested in the whole satellite thing!!!

My friend has recently had a 1.4m PF dish and a Grundig gufsat01hd freesat box installed by a well known local Torrevieja professional installer. They are receiving BBC1 & ITV generally OK although I think the picture is rather grainy. It is connected to an older TV using SARTS via a Video Recorder. The installer persuaded them into buy the HD box.

They have the usual freesat channels and some channels added in non-freesat mode (Eg TTon 4 although they loose it about 5 pm). They asked me if they could get Sky News and I thought that I could easily add it at 12207 V 27500. Those are the only parameters that the Grundig box allows me to add. Although the error rate box is visible, it is not possible to scroll down to it and enter 2/3. Therefore, I imagine when it I hit "search" that it not a problem. However, no channels are found on that transponder!!

I find this surprising as it is a strong transponder on the South Beam of 2B (is that correct??). Normally, a dustbin lid will pick this up.

I have been looking around and I could try 12090 V 27500 2/3 tomorrow but this is a North Beam 2B transponder?? and weaker??

The only thing that comes to mind is that the dish or skew are not spot on but I am still surprised it does not see 12207.

I would appreciate any ideas please."





A guy called satandpcguy (he gives loads of great advice to people in my area) replied saying that I was doing all the right things and he thought that I should get 12207 easily. He said skew was not important and that he thought the Grundig's FEC was automatic and not to bother with 12090 (only Sky Box Office).

All of this seems logical. He didn't have a Grundig receiver to hand so he couldn't try it out.

Can anyone help please? May be someone knows this receiver well?? I just can't believe that the dish can't get that transponder when it picks up the more difficult ones on the North Beam for BBC1 & ITV1 etc and also sees TTon4 as a non-freesat channel.

Actually skew is very important, but may be not so much for SlyNews, especially if they are getting all the other freesat channels.
Just wondering if you have tried another receiver (sly or freesat) on the system, as that may pinpoint if the dish and LNB are correctly aligned?
Or have you tried to get the BBC Sport Interactive Streams (BBC1 then Red Button) as these are on the same satellite and similar frequency to SlyNews

South beam and in particular this transponder - should be an easy catch with a 1.4M/1.6M dish in CB. Worth trying another receiver first as mentioned.

Thanks for the help guys and I will try out my spare generic digibox and see what it picks up.

How long is the cable run to the dish ?

It could well be that the PSU of the Grundig is incompatible with the LNB you are using, and the switch is not being made to the same conditions for the transponder that Sky News is on.

Thanks for the reply. The cable run is about 20m but I don't know the type of LNB because the system was put in by a local, well known installer. They would not have asked him. The dish is roof mounted and not particularly accessible. I imagine it should just be a standard installation that he will have done loads of times. They can, of course, just call him back.

My friend's knew that I had installed my own system and therefore they just asked if I could get them Sky News. Pretty simple, I thought !!! Now it's just bugging me !!! I don't like mysteries.

Anyway, when I can catch them home, I will try out my spare generic receiver.

Hi

I tried my own generic receiver and it still does not pick up Sky News on 12207 V 27500 (the transponder signal quality is 5%). Therefore, I conclude it has to be a LNB or slight alignment problem. Do you agree???

It still seems very strange that pretty well everthing else that should be received, is received. BBC i streams are fine and the red button works on the Grundig receiver.

The only other main channels that are missing are Five, BBC2,3,4. All these are on 10773 H 22000 5/6 ??? Forum posts say that these channels will not be picked up here in Torrevieja, Alicante on a 1.4m dish.

As the installation is pretty new, I suggested that my friends contact the installer.
