Guide to tyre mounting a dish?

Looking to put a dish on a tyre mount for analogue 19e for a while and was just wondering how you tyre mount a dish. Is it jsut a case of putting it on tope of it and a few bricks?

Im not sure there any guide to doing it - I used any scabby old tyre and just jammed a lath of wood / length of old pipe under the top of the rim to stop it blowing over. Something like a sandbag over the arm would work just as well as long as it didnt block the lnb too much.

I'll see if I can find a picture :D
 
Heres a reasonable one - the lath of wood is jammed in place under the mounting bolts on the back of the dish.

Yeah I get you, thanks. Now I just need to find a tyre. There were some behind the house a few weeks back but someone's burnt them.
 
It used to work just as well with 3 bricks, but that knocked the paint off the edge of the rim rather badly.
 
You can also make a perfectly serviceable temporary mount by belting an old fence post into the ground and screwing a couple of stand off aerial brackets into it to support an offcut of steel pipe.

Nah but for years we didnt have any spare money so I had to make do with what was available at absolute minimal cost :D The tyres came out of the local woodland, wooden laths were aquired from somewhere or other, bits of steel pipe came out of the scrap bins at work, & the dishes were scavenged from anywhere I found an unwanted one. For ages I made do with the scruffiest of old lnb's that came with the scrap dishes I picked up although I did invested in 2 or 3 cheap modern ones eventually. Old unwanted fenceposts were nabbed off the side of a footpath where they had been discarded after fencing work.

Even most of my receivers were secondhand to begin with :D
 
Let me make one important point. My fencepost mounted dishes are perfectly adequate on their tv aerial mounts as they are at waist height. If a mount fails in a storm the dish cant do a great deal of damage - it might wipe out a couple of the surrounding dishes but thats a risk Im willing to take.

This sort of lash up must NOT be used wall mounted above head height - the wind loadings are much higher and proper T&K brackets should be used - their structural strength is much higher. You dont want a gutter height mount to fail in a storm - it could do all sorts of damage - go through a window, land on someones car or worst case - kill someone.
 
Well...after all this snow I've finally had a chance to start putting it together. Will set it up properly later.
