The world will really end in the year 4,567,782,456 on January 6 at 12:07:04 AM Atlantic time, this is when the corona from the now red giant Sun will first touch the molten rock you all called a planet.

Of course the Human race will be very long gone by that time.
 
What may be coming in could be my Cousin Bob, he had engine trouble out by Beta Proxima, he said he would be late and save him a beer or two.

Having been through another 3-5 ice ages (we're technically in one now, albeit in an inter-glacial period).
As the key energy generator will go on for billions of years, perhaps there will be multiple attempts by nature at intelligent life, and perhaps one species of life that will study the first wave of intelligent life that came before them ("the ancients"!) ... ie. us (we)?
