Just wondering if this is still celebrated in the UK in spite of the air pollution that burning wood causes.
We have a tradition every year called "Lag Baomer" where wood is collected by boys and girls for months and then they burn it on a special night.
Unfortunately instead of just one night, they started to burn wood for several nights, up to ten nights in some cities.
The air pollution is just unbearable, and the ministry of environmental protection do absolutely nothing to prevent wood burning or even to go back to just one night.
They burn not only wood, but also all kind of plastic covered wood and plastic containers which emit poisonous gases.
I am just wondering what kind of irresponsible parents would let their children expose themselves to unhealthy smoke and poisonous gases and also some tragedies of getting burnt as a result of accidents.
Schools also take part in the tradition and instead of educating boys and girls how bad this can be, they take part in organizing wood burning in some locations.
This is the second night of the "Promos" and tomorrow will be the big bang according to the calendar.
I suffer a lot from the air pollution on these nights and closing doors and windows doesn't really help.
