The longest running catalog in America, Hammachler Schlemmer, has announced that it is selling “the world's smallest camera.” At just $99.95 (£63.79), anyone can play spy with the miniature digicam. With its 2 megapixel sensor that captures 1600x1200 resolution JPEG photos and 30-frames-per-second AVI video in 640x480 resolution, it can hold its own when put up against some larger cameras.

Fred Berns, GM of Hammachler Schlemmer said: “Although 'The World's Smallest Camera' is only slightly larger than a marble, it takes still images and records videos just like much larger cameras.”

So how small is small?

The specs given by the catalog state that it's 1.125 inches long, 1.062 inches deep, and about an inch wide. Impressive considering it contains a 2-GB micro-SD card, a USB port for transferring photos, and a built-in rechargeable battery that gives users 30 minutes of use per charge. The unit weighs 28 grams, and comes with a wrist lanyard to keep it close and make it easy to carry around.

Unfortunately for the New York based company, however, it isn't the world's smallest. The Super Small Spy Digital DC DV camera from Brando boasts a volume of 1.102 cubic inches, JTT's Chobi Camm One is even smaller with its volume of 0.934 cubic inches, and other cameras sold on SpyVille are smaller, though they need an external battery.

Though Hammachler Schlemmer's latest product isn't the smallest, exactly, it is still, as Berns said, “a remarkable piece of kit, and is expected to prove very popular with the public.”
