Hard Drives in the 80GB boxes ?

I've been given three Sk y+ boxes, one Pace TDS470N, one Thomson DS8210CSR and an Amstrad DRX240, for the price of a couple of pints.

I was just going to take out the hard drives and keep the power supplies as each of them powers up (the Thomson shows no signal, the Amstrad stays in standby, the Pace, surprisingly works), however on each the hard drive is a 160GB Seagate unit and so better than I expected.

Even though each has 80GB sticker underneath, are these official upgrades, or is the unit designe with only 80GB of recording facility and the rest for nefarious doings by the broadcaster ?

The drives are also different to the standard Barracuda 7200s I have seen before, with logo confirming they are for 'consumer storage', is there likely to be any issue by using one as a secondary drive in my main PC?
 
They will be 160Gb as standard. 80gb for personnal storage the other 80gb for Sky anytime :D

You cannot free up the extra 80gb used for Sky anytime hence the 80gb sticker :confused:

There shouldn't be an issue with using them in your PC. I used to use one of them in my DM7020 and i had no problems there.

I can get shot of the remotes on work as well, I suppose the other parts aren't worth sticking on eBay so they will unfortunately go to the local refuse site, unless anyone else wants parts (front panels and the remotes are likely to be worth keeping).

Not sure if this is worth mentioning, the Amstrad doesn't have a CI slot in the back, and the PCB is completely bare.
 
If the Thommo is showing no signal its probably the caps in the power supply. Thats the usual reason for Thommos ending their lives.

Any white cards with them??
 
If your that desperate AS i have one you can have. Its not been in a box for ages though about 11 months or so :D

I was keeping it for cold mornings :-lmao
 
Ah same employment as my old blue cards and the Sky analogue cards and the Free-X card that came with the DB and......

Only on one side, but you could always respray them.
 
Don't forget to use Seatools to enable Noisy mode (called "Performance" I think, but Seagate and Performance don't really mix), otherwise the drives will be really slow on a PC... :)
