HD on a standard def 7020

Ive been having a play with HD channels on my 7020. By streaming the channel across my lan and using vlc on the computer I get a picture :-worship

Attached is a screenie of ITV 1 HD. :D

Now its not brilliant - the image jumps and pixellates badly where theres a lot of detail or movement on screen - I suspect the 7020 processor isnt good enough to cope with the bandwidth.

However its good enough to have a look and take some sceengrabs. The sound is fine though :D

Restrictions:

this only works with DVB HD channels. The tuner cant resolve DVB-S2 channels.

the channels come up as data channels in the channel list so you have to use dreamboxedit to change the channel parameters to tv.



This should work on some of the other SD receivers, although I suspect the cheap and nasty 500's would REALLY struggle :D

Yes, the VLC codecs will open them up nicely - but an SD Dreambox will only get you the MPEG4 channels delivered on DVB-S TP's.

Edit - you've kindly added the obvious restrictions since I posted up :-rofl2
