HDMI Switching Problem

Apple TV, Sky HD and PS3 run through HDMI splitters to 2 LCD tv's in different rooms.

Hi,

I have a Sky HD, PS3 and Apple TV connected to 2 TV's via 2 HDMI cables to each. The PS3 and Sky HD are run through an HDMi auto switch and then splitter to the 2 TV's. The Apple TV stands alone and just runs through a splitter to the 2 TV's.

When everything is connected, the PS3 and Sky HD will not autoswitch correctly - the TV just falshes up different colours. If I switch the Apple TV totally off, then it works fine, and switches to the source that is one.

I can't understand this as the Apple TV is through a separate splitter and goes into separate HDMI ports on the TV's. One thing I have found strange (which is the reason I put the Apple TV on its own to start with) is that when it is in standby the TV does not show a blue screen, as with other sources...just a black one.

Help please.

It sounds like the Apple TV isn't actually powering the ports down when it's in standby. As a result your TV and switcher still think the Apple TV is switched on.

It will be why you see a black screen instead of the blue "no signal" screen on the TV when it's in standby, and why it all goes mental when in the same switcher as the SKY/PS3 boxes.

Only Apple can fix this one and it should be logged as a bug. You've a snowball's chance in hell of them actually caring enough to fix it though.

If you disable auto switching on the TV and manually select the HDMI input does the PS3/Sky work properly without the flashing screen when the Apple TV is in standby?

The TV is not auto switching - I manually change from HDMI 2 (Apple TV) to HDMI 1 (PS3 / Sky). The auto switch is a separated device which makes this all the more confusing. Realising I had no chance of Apple changing the standby philosophy of the Apple TV, I gave this a dedicated HDMI port.

When I switch to HDMI 1 on the TV the PS3 and Sky do not switch automatically into that input, with the Apple TV on. When I switch the Apple TV off, they switch fine.
