My Satellite Setup
Sony KLV26HG2 LCD TV, Humax HD-CI 2000 on a Fixed Sky/Astra/Hotbird.
Cerebro Card. Infinity USB Phonix. Dragon Cam v4.1 w/Firecrypt & Loader Card.

Dear All HDTV enthusiasts

May 15th the BBC starts there HD Test Streams. Please if someone purchases the Humax HD Box model no Humax HD-CI2000 . Please play around with it linked with your HDTV . Please post results of picture quality. And most importently please also try a connection via Component.

If you do this please answer the following questions.
1) Is the BBC HD Trail Stream working good and working via Component only?
2) Are the SD Channels more better and colourfull then the Sky Digibox?

Well, HD is up and running on 28E, just waiting Shahids kind offer to donate a Humax HD-CI2000 to test the reception alongside the two other units here.

The review may go ahead without him.
 
I have one of these boxes, but unfortunately at this time it is not possible to tune into any of the broadcasts that are uplinked via the sky platform, [Includes the bbc], The reason being that sky are using their own uplink standard as against the industry standard, The current software of the Humax needs to be updated before it will be able to receive the HD broadcast from the BBC. Humax say that the new software will be available on their website next week, but I have heard that before somewhere....
My own feeling is that sky have done this on purpose to push there own box sales, and according to one source the bbc are not best pleased.
As far as picture quality is concerned, HD is first class on SAT1, Pro 7 and the other demo channels, SD is as good as a sky box and better if viewed over component or HDMI, But you need to use the videoformat button to set the scaling back to SD as the attempt to upscale a SD to HD is pathetic. This viewed on a pioneerPDP50xde Plasma.

The software on the humax at first acquaintance is shite, but it is not too bad as you get used to it, Channel Storage is too low, 4000?, but you can opt not to store radio channels which helps. Works fine with a dragon cam.

If this is correct, then its the old CI slot and symbol rate restriction issues over again.
 
I am geting very depressed what i have read. symbol retriction and all this stuff sky are doing the get the own boxes sold. i am peed off. is it possible to buy a sky box for £299 instaed of £399 what sky selling for.
 
Talked to a guy that sells them in the U.K. and said that he tried the Pace DS810XE himself(received it yesterday he says), and can lock the BBC test channel. You can't always say it's 100% certain(he wants to sell them of course), but still we would like to see a Humax working also. Just one alternative to the SkyHD Digibox is a real bummer!:mad:

The BBC uplinking arrangements are nothing to do with Sky
 
Didnt the BBC run Blue Peter in HD once?
 
No HD unless you get the Sky Thompson Box
This is what its looking to me. They have done a technically advanced thing to stop us watching with other HD boxese. Sky are F??C:NG *ST(RDS
 
This has little or nothing to do with Sky, the BBC have total control over what and how they transmit.

You will probably find that it has to do with the rights holders of the world cup transmissions, who are not happy with the BBC transmitting over Europe for free in HD, what they will be charging for.
 
Dear rolfw

Since being a satellite entuasiat all these years, this is the most upsetting time off all. A great world which england might win and will not be able to watch in hd. humax will not work, i do not live in telewest area . if i order the sky hd box will not install in time for KO. I am very very upset. :(

If you order now, you wont get it installed for the final let alone kick off - current install dates are reported as being into August

Are BBC HD channels available through freeview box or built-in HD ready TVs?

No chance. Theres a limited low power test happening in the London area transmitting off the Crystal Palace tx with the BBC, but theres no hardware generally available for it . Theres no hope of HDTV on Freeview DTT until after the analogue switch off due to lack of bandwidth.
