Help help I'm all confused

I'm very much a noob here and was planning on buying a dreambox and doing a little cardsharing to watch some football.

I've since looked into programming cards and seem to have got myself seriously confused.

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place but my question is quite broad.

Am I right in thinking that if I bought a dreambox 500, pointed the dish at hotbird and using cccam I could cardshare to receive something like showtime.

If this is the case then what is the purpose of things like dragon cam or programming a new card etc.

hello,
you can card share with some services.
sky italia and sky uk has some card sharing.
you have to find someone who will share and you have to have a satellite system pointing to the correct satellite and have the proper cam software.
you connect to the internet using a systems cable and you are loged on with someone's computer.
showtime i am not shure of.

Showtime doesnt broadcast on Hotbird - Its on Nilesat 7W & needs silly sized dishes to receive it in much of the UK
 
Ok so could the same be achieved by writing to a custom card.

Any ideas how this can be done and what hardware would be required.

Not really - the days of writing hooky cards are LONG gone. One or two packages are still open with the right cards files and cams, but all the major ones were closed out many years ago.
 
Ok so if this is the case what's all the hype with things like dragon cam and cas3+
 
The Dragon Cam won't open much. A Diablo 2 loaded with Ipnosys 12 will (at present) open the French CanalSat package on 19E, the Bulsat SD and HD channels on 39E, the RCS package on 1.0W,and Canal Digitaal on 19E. And a few minor ones too.
