Hello,

Please help me.
I am trying to receive Sirius in Aberdeen for Viasat. I am using a basic beeping satellite finder to find it.

My dish is 1.1 M, and I receive all satellites except sirius. All satellites kind of "overpower" the sirius for some reason.

Please help, as I am on budget, I cant afford an expensive satellite finder. Please help

Well a 1.1m dish has quite a narrow beamwidth, so it is most unlikely Sirius is being "overpowered".

The next closest strong Satellite is at 7E and if that is what you are getting, then your alignment is out.

What Channels are you actually getting?

Iam not getting any channels or signal shown on tv. But my beeper is loud. Tried many different angles, but no luck.
 
The beeper will beep continuously until you get close to alignment to any Satellite, then the sound will change, as will the needle deflection and then you need to alter the meter sensitivity as you refine the alignment.

So you are not being "overpowered" at all - the fact is that you are simply nowhere near a Satellite!

What you need to do is go to Site Links at the top of every Forum page, and select Dishpointer: That will give you a good starting point for alignment.

But in adjusting dish elevation, do take into account the LNB arm offset ........

Iam silly, but plz help me step by step to align it.

My beeper has no needle,just LEDs.
 
Try using your receiver as well as your satellite beeper.
Tune your receiver to a FTA channel, like Novy Channel, 11766 H 27500, and then try adjusting your dish until you get a signal, you should have no problem with a 1.1M dish.
Personally I don't use satellite beepers as the cheap ones I've tried give spurious readings, I run a cable, from my satellite receiver, to a portable TV and move the dish until I get a picture.

Are you trying to set up a motorized dish, or just a fixed dish on 5E?
 
Haven't used one of those ................ I assumed you were using a cheap needle meter

Iam using both reciever and beeper. When i get a strong beep, i turn down the sensitivity and fine tune until i get a loud beep again. Compass shows correct direction atleast. Ah, forget to mention 2 pro chaps came with fancy expensive meters, but they never found sirius either. Line of site was perfectly clear.
 
Then they couldn't have been very professional.
Can you please explain what you are trying to do.
Are you trying to set up a motorized dish or just a fixed dish?
What receiver are you using?

Have you looked at Dishpointer, as suggested earlier?
 
Beg ur pardon. I want it fixed permanently to sirius. Yes tried dishpointer. My reciever is viasat from latvia. In manual search mode i can choose sirius, hotbird, lmi, or astra satellites. Automatic default search is fixed to sirius.
 
Can you check which channels, and frequencies, are listed on your receiver, compare it to the list on lyngsat:

When was the last time this receiver was used?
Are you sure that they have the correct PID information for the channels?

You should have no problem picking up certain channels, on 5E, providing you have a clear line of sight, on a 1.1M dish.

Last time was 4 months back. What is PID?
 
None of the channels, we used to view are listed on the Lyngsat website. Sorry forgot to mention onething. We were living in a different location (8 miles away from current place), and we were getting all Latvian channels on a 85 CM dish.

But at new location, all this trouble is there.

Can you please also tell me, on how to fine using beep meter?

The problem with cheap satellite meters, even if they are working, is that you don't know which satellite you're on, which is why you need to use your receiver.
Once you find a satellite you carry out a scan, to get some of the channels, then by comparing them with websites, like lyngsat, you can find out which satellite your on and adjust your dish accordingly.

Where have you got your dish sited? Is the pole plumb, not essential for a fixed dish set up but it does make it easier to get the dish angle generally correct.

Find out how to do a scan, with your receiver, from the manual, and next time your sat finder meter tells you you've foung a satellite scan the channels adn post the information.
 
Few interesting developments. We found sirius with the help of a proper meter, which showed 86 % quality. And it did say sirius. But when we scanned reciever we got 10 austrian channels.

Did we got european beam? Cuz we want the nordic beam.

So back to meter and turned a dish a bit, and found another sirius but this time at 16% quality. However after scanning all latvian channels came!

Wats going on? I thought there was just 1 sirius in orbit.
 
If you post some of the channel information, name, frequency, etc.. we can tell you which satellite you're on, it could possibly be 19E or 13E.

There are a lot of satellites in orbit and a lot of them use similar frequencies, so even though your receiver is telling you that you are on 5E you are probably on a different satellite.

Once you discover which satellite you're picking up you can move the dish accordingly.

I'm sorry but I have never heard of 8H, I can spot the SR and what looks like the SID, VPID and APID information but not the frequency.
Are these channels open on your receiver?
If you can see a picture check for any channel identification, usually in the corner of the picture.
Otherwise try scanning for FTA, Free to Air channels, and posting the information.
It is likely that your dish is pointing at a different satellite, to 5E, and that the information on your receiver is not correct, but without more details I am only guessing.
