Hi

I have an openbox 820, 1m dish, moteck 2100 motor

I put up the 1 m dish the other day and have the following sats programmed in

28, 19, 16, 13, 5 east

Reception seems decent on all of them except hotbird which only has 45-50% strength!! Strange

I initially had 1 west on a strong signal, but then lost it. I found it again but the signal seemed much lower 45%. I saved it but it had gone when I went back to find it.

If I can get all the east sats easily is there any reason why I am having problems finding 1 west and the west ones?

Is the pole vertical in both planes? Dish elevation is set correctly and zeroed on your Southerly most satellite when setting up?

An installer set it up and had 1 west at 80+%
I had a firmware issue and lost the settings so re loaded the firmware
As I say I can get all the east sats but have a problem with the west ones?
The pole was used for an 80cm dish I had and is vertical. I assume he had the elevation etc correct but not sure.
Would this affect the west sats and not the east ones?
Also, seems strange hotbird is on 50% on east

I'd start from scratch and recommend following the guides for a realignment procedure. Set up the dish on your reference satellite which is more than likely 5W.

See guides below

Yes- the arc will be wrong when the dish moves.

Ah ok. I will have to call out an installer as I have no idea how to sort it out. I will watch him when he does it and save myself money in the future. It was working 2 days ago when the installer set it up. Wonder how it went off?

You have nothing to lose by trying to realign the dish yourself.

Are you using USALS or DiSEqC 1.2 to drive your motor. This should be displayed in your motor menu?

If you as the installer nicely, he'll probably show you how to set it up while he's doing it. He'll probably be a real nice guy who won't mind at all... ;-)

No doubt he wlll LOL!!

Just in a panic to try to get 1 west on for the Liverpool match tomorrow night.

Let me know when you think you will be over this way. It is the west sats that I am having problems with, and 1 west is the main sat at the minute
Cheers Glenn

Input your coordinates into Usals and send the dish to 5W. Swing the dish around the pole a fraction E & W and adjust the dish elevation for best signal on an active transponder on Atlantic Bird 3. If all is plumb, you should be home and dry :)

I have checked multimap and dishpointer and they are giving me different long/lat for my postcode??

I put both into usals and tried for 1 west and 5 west but did not get a signal. Do I need to move the dish once i set the coordinates?

I have set up the other sats using the other method

yes you will need to move the dish, you loosen the motor brackets bolts and move the dish till you have found 5west and then adjust the dish up/down for best signal and lock the bolts up tight

are you doing this with a signal meter of some kind otherwise doing blind without will be harder

I'd use usals and send the dish to a satellite closest to your longitude ie. 5W

After inputting your coordinates and sending the dish to a satellite close by, the motor will move the difference.

If using DiSEqC 1.2, you have to make this offset manually.

Usals would be easier.

> Use dishpointer.com (more accurate)
> Input long & Latitude
> Send dish to closest satellite to your longitude
> The dish will move a fraction, then move adjust the dish/motor together around the pole and dish El for best signal.
> Test system

If I set usals, 5 west, is this the goto reference point

Once there, do I input 1 west as go to position

Start off with go reference (zero position on motor)

Input data, send to 5W and then align.

All explained in guides :)
