hi , i fit security alarms and cctv and i have a question if i may regarding satellite tv.
pardon my little knowledge about satellites and all but i think its wise to leave that to you guys.
as many people know sky tv is veiwed by masses around europe including the canary islands, i have been asked what to do for a friend who has sky and recieves many channels in the canarys, he has lost itv,ch5 and ch4.
would it help if he fitted a stronger more powerful LNB (new budget LNB fitted no gain) ?
or any other words of wisdom would be fantastic.
thanks in advance:-righton

Several of those channels have changed frequency (All of them if its C4HD he was watching & certain ITV's) so it may just be as simple as retuning the box. However, the south western islands are having problems with the C5 channels especially. This is due to them now being transmitted on a new satellite called Astra 1N which has a tighter beam than that used before.

If its a signal problem theres no such thing as a "stronger lnb" he either puts up a dish big enough to guarantee reception, does without, or uses place shifting technology to view direct from the UK via broadband connections.

No i am in the same boat being in Tenerife the satellites all changed round, I get these channels in my bar using a 2.4 m dish but not on smaller.
So LNB isnt the issue but by changing internet provider they are offering english tv along side there internet and using telefonica as the phone provider.
Think they are called bay connect but there is a few.

ian, did you need to put new codes into find channels for ITVs and CH5 ?
I read it was 11.053 ,22.2, 5,6 H

thanks both.
BTW Ian, did you have to retune the skybox ? if so what are the latest codes for those channels ?

11053H
22.0
5/6

However all Sky & Freesat epgs have now been mapped over to the 1N Channel 5's so it looks like their dish isnt big enough if they cant see the channels..

Which island are they on?

They are in Lanzarote, i think thats the north of the islands.
they did have channels mentioned before xmas but cant get them now, they have put in the codes (thanks for that btw) but no signal.
I presume the alternative is a bigger dish ?
are there any plans for the signal to return in the furtue as it was before ?

No chance whatsoever of them putting things back how they were - in fact its very likely that many more channels will be moving over to the restricted beam in the not too distant future.

It is possible to get the 1N signals on a 1.35 dish in lanzarote, I am in the north of Fuerteventura and have just about got 24/7 reception of 1N although very little margin for rain fade etc. However the dish has to be absolutely spot on alignment and also I am using a black ultra single lnb and a VU+ solo receiver.
Also was getting slight pixellation at about 9pm so re-adjusted skew on lnb and aligned (using satcatcher meter) to 10964H.
However recommend that if really want those channels then realistically you are looking at a 1.5mtr or larger. (Bear in mind my dish gets tweaked to withih an inch of its life on a regular basis to keep the 1N signals maximised.
