Hello David, welcome to the forum
So correct me if I am wrong you are asking us how to swap from a satellite setup to VM, but what do you mean by VM? Virgin Media, VMware or something else?

Hi David, welcome to the forum. VM presumably means Virgin Media so first question - does it have a cable tuner in it? If not forget it.

Virgin media

well it's only got one tuner in it would it need flashing with a vm image

If its not got a cable tuner in it you can flash whatever image you like on it - it wont work. Different tuners, different frequencies. If it supports pluggable tuners you can buy aftermarket units to swap it over

It's not pluggable tuners thanks for your help and honest advice could I change my vu ultimo from sat to virgin that has 3 tuners init

According to the VU+ home site the VU+ Ultimo has Plug & Play tuners, so you can plug in a Cable tuner, available for around £60, and then change the cables.xml file for one suitable for Virgin.
Code:
http://vuplus.com/sub/sub0106.php
The tuner is a DVB-C/T2 Single Tuner, suitable for the Uno, Ultimo, Duo 2, Solo SE, Solo SE v2, and Solo 4K.

If it's similar to the Duo 2, you can run satellite, and cable, tuners, side by side, and view both satellite, and cable.

Isn't there a twin tuner DVB-T2/DVB-C module available from VU+?

Not that I know of, but as some VU+ models have at least two tuner slots, like the VU+ Duo 2, you can fit two DVB-T2/DVB-C modules, but you do lose your satellite option.
Equally there are external USB tuners, that can be fitted, to allow extra viewing options.
