Help needeed with JVC TU-AD1000

I have recently aquirred a JVC TU-AD1000. I dont want it for satallite reception, but to use it for (ATV) Amateur Television. The frequency used for ATV is smack bang in the middle of the receivers frequency.

However when I turn the unit it it flashes SC, which I presume means SKY CARD. I dont have a analouge sky card and wondered if I can change the channels without one. If this is not possible does anyone know where I could get one, I dont think it needs to be a working one.

SC probably means short circuit on the LNB input.:)

That could be correct because the antenna i made will "short" out the LNB, however I have put a 100pF capacitor in series to stop the 13Vdc that is used to power the LNB.

should I still be able to change channels with the "SC" flasing, do I need a remote to change any of the functions.

If the SC is flashing you won't be able to do anything, I presume that it stops when you disconnect the antenna? You should be able to switch off the LNB supply, but don't know whether you require the remote.

I managed to get a Marmitek universal remote to run my old Pace receiver, so may work for your JVC as well.:)

You'll also need some form of preamplification to drive the receiver's tuner, as they are quite deaf without the LNB's L-band amplifier. If you fit one at the masthead, you could use the 13/18V output from the receiver to power it, as long as the DC isolation capacitor is fitted between the antenna and the preamp.

Ok, I can toggle through the channels, I dont suppose anyone knows what channels are set to what frequency. by that i mean the actuall receiver frequencies, not the LNB

Can you recommend a pre-amp, I know maplin do some kits, but not sure which type i want, Audio/RF/Stereo (i presume Audio and stereo are the same)
 
Doubt that you'll find anything suitable for your purpose in Maplin's. What amateur band(s) are you wanting to receive?

Depends on what the frequency you are trying to receive. If it's from the local beacon transmitting on 23cm, look up the frequency in this list -

As an example, if it's 1316MHz, add it to 9750 (or 10600) if your receiver LNB configuration is set to Universal LNB.

9750+1316 = 11066MHz

10600 + 1316 = 11916MHz

This gives you the two frequencies you need to scan to receive that beacon.

I want to receive ATV (and eventually trasmit it) on 23Cms (1240.000-1243.250 MHz)

Maplin do a K1803 Universal Mono Pre-Amplifier and also a 7w and 200w one, but I am unsure what I need.

They're audio preamplifiers. You're looking for preamps for the 23cm band. Most preamps for 23cm are usually DIY jobs - ready-made ones are very expensive. Search for "23cm preamplifiers" if you fancy making one yourself, there's several designs available.

I think it may do the job.

I dont suppose you know where I can get a remote for the JVC TU-AD1000, just bought a universal one from Argos and guess what.. it dont work.
 
No, you're way off beam. You're need something for the radio amateur 23cm band, that is, 1296MHz - 1325MHz.

Something like this -

As I said, they don't come cheap, and many radio amateurs using this band construct them themselves.
