HELP! No satellite signal is being received

My Satellite Setup
Humax Foxsat PVR HD, Humax HD, Panasonic DTB30, mini dish and quad lnb
My Location

We recently started getting the message 'No satellite signal is being received' on one of our receivers.

My set up is -

1. Humax Foxsat HD PVR with two feeds (bought Dec 08) approx 5m cable run
2. Humax HD receiver (bought Feb 09) approx 15m cable run
3. Panasonic DTB30 receiver (much older prob 5+ yrs) approx 5m cable run then 15m as it feeds via the RF out (then via a powered booster) upstairs to our bedroom; the others are just connected to a TV.
'Sky' type mini-dish approx 5 years old, quad LNB, good quality cabling and F connectors - was professionally installed by local business not Sky.

The original set up was all Sky receivers but we went to Freesat, and a few weeks after the second Humax was installed we noticed that the Humax Foxsat HD PVR was only getting one signal - it would allow you watch one channel but not record another. So I changed a cable over reset everything and the problem appeared to move to the Panasonic which now gave the 'no signal' message. I assumed the cable was the problem but when I tested each individually they all worked fine.

I then checked some forums which suggested the quad LNB was at fault - got a new one, but didn't change a thing.

I then read that some older receivers like the Panasonic lose the power/blown capacitors to draw down a signal, and somehow get the signal from another connected device which explained the moving problem so I got another satellite receiver - another Panasonic DTB30. But still no joy - whatever happens only 3 out of 4 receivers get a signal but the cables are fine and individually all get very good signal quality/strength.

I had wondered if the Humax devices demanded more signal (as they are HD) and somehow my satellite dish/LNB set up doesn't provide enough 'output' to feed 4 demanding devices but I don't know if that's how satellite receivers work.

I'm baffled! And I'm out of ideas... What can I do to resolve this as everything individually seems fine.

Have you got a DECT phone in the house ? If so, disconnect it from the mains power and try again. Next will be any new electrical devices in the rooms, wirelsss internet routers are the biggest issue these days.

Have you checked the dish alignment ? That is missing from your post. If so, run each device from another dish with a single LNB, (if available from a neighboour).

That will determine if the dish you have has somehow lost its signal (a tree or bush starting to grow ?) It is the right time of year.

Have you got a DECT phone in the house ? Yes 2 DECT phones - disconnected them and no difference

Next will be any new electrical devices in the rooms, wirelsss internet routers are the biggest issue these days. Yes a Belkin N1 wireless router. Quite a poweful transmitter, but made no difference when switched off.

Have you checked the dish alignment ? Not able to do this and don't have a device for checking. My humax devices report 100% on strength and quality

That will determine if the dish you have has somehow lost its signal (a tree or bush starting to grow ?) Luckily on corner plot and not overlooked by anything so its clear to the skies

I also tried another receiver. I matched the settings on the Humax PVR Foxsat (I don't know what these mean but - Frequency 10.891; Polarisation H; Symbol rate-mbaud 22.0; FEC 5/6) and now I get a signal quality of 80-90%! Great news. But absolutely no signal strength.....

No signal strength at all and still the message no satellite signal is being received.
 
I think you need to call somebody in, but you did well to check all the obvious issues before giving in. It is an odd one where the LNB is 'swamped' when you have it fully loaded.

I did think of maybe some earth potential issue, where the LNB is much higher from the ground than the other kit, or maybe you are situated under high-voltage pylons, but the chances of that are minimal.

Do you by any chance have long SCART leads in the system, running to other rooms ?
