Hi all new member here and new to satellites. I have bought a motorised system and i am about to install it but i have one question . How do i find the nearest satellite to my position so i can lock onto it as a starting point. my longitude is -2.0684 and my latitude is 52.4770.I had a go at instalation last night, did my head in, is there any simple instructions out there. Can some one just give me a start point I have looked and it says that my location i need an elevation of 38 but on the motor there is elevation on one side and on the other Latitude??If someone could take the time to help please Thanks

KarlG

To answer your main questions; your due south sat should be 1°W and set the latitude scale on the motor to 52, you should find that it will then read 38 on the elevation scale on the other side of the motor housing.

Before you do anything, I'd advise you to read the guides at the start of this section.....several times

On Dishpointer, it's 0.8°W and sats are listed as Intelsat 10-02/Thor5/Thor6.

Hi Sonnetpete
Thanks again now going on the roof to try again, one other thing please. As I am new to sat. tv is there downloads I can get to unscramble channels or do I just get the free ones

all the best KarlG

You'll just get the free ones unless you buy a subscription. The days of using codes to watch paytv have gone.

thanks m8 just thought you could get more of the foreign channels

If you have a fair sweep of the arc, say from 39°E to 30°W you should get 3000+ FTA channels. That should be enough to hold your interest for a while, unless you were after something more specific. If you're still having problems it would help to have a few piccies of your set up. Load them straight onto this thread using the 'advanced' option, rather than posting links to an image hosting site.

Hi Sonnetpete
Just come of the roof again, now I have set the dish motor to 0 and found south put a meter on and got a reading pluged it all back in and now just getting nothing. When I first got it I just stuck it up my mate moved the dish untill we found a channel and then I seemed to get loads, but now I have tried to follow all the instructions and I seem to have made it worse.I have set the long. to 52. Where am I going wrong??
