ive tried with a compass and skys dish position shows 38 degrees towards east from south. is there any offset at all as its meant to be 28.2. cheers

Should be 28 or there abouts, having you compass anywhere near metellic objects (including the dish) will throw the compass completely as you know.

The "direction" of a satellite group is not an exact science - it varies depending where you are on the surface of the Earth..... If you were in Bulgaria, the Astra 2's will be almost due south of you!

Compasses have 2 additional problems, --> the metal of the dish interferes with the compass unless you stand well clear, and there is also the magnetic pole offset from the actual geographic poles to allow for.

The best solution is to use a little application called "Satellite Antenna Alignment" (easy to found with Google search).
It gives you the direction to aim for each satellite according to the coordinates of your location.
