My Satellite Setup
CUrrecntly with BSkyB - BUT WANTING TO GET RID AS I HATE THEM WITH A PASSION !!!
My Location
UK
Well,

for the past few years, my wife and I have been 'happy' with our current sky set-up (though hacked off with the charges) when I was going through the attic and found my old set-up when we lived in the States for a while with DSS cards, programmers etc. and it brought back good memories of what we had and the friends we had online with fixes etc.

I'd love to bin sky completely and have more than the free view channels but not sure of the right way to go, which is the best PVR, receiver, best supported with quick hash fixes blah, blah.

I've no issues with sticking up another dish or moving my sky one if need be.

If anybody can stick it in black and white to exactly what I'll need (and approx costs if poss) to get some channels. I've heard that I get get ice hockey on one of the sats, but not sure which system.

I'm sure you know what I'm asking and any help would be appreciated - and dont worry, I wont be a noob for long and will probably get into this like I did in the US and be involved with it all yet again :-DOH2

Cheerz

P.S. I don't have c@ble in our area

The encryption used by Sky UK is totally secure so you wont be watching it for free.

Theres plenty of free to air channels out there in the skies above Europe although very few of them transmit in English.

Its possible to open one or two of the pay tv packages, although number accessible reduces almost monthly as the providers tighten up their encryption.

Theres plenty of info available across the forum on whats possible at the moment.

Thanks.

I'm not expecting to watxh sky channels for free and not really interested in Sky.

Other channels in ENglish would be a good start ;)

I'll keep browsing the forums for more info but all responses on above are appreciated.

Hi,

Get youself a 1m motorised dish for around £100 with LNB. Then add either a Dreambox or a Technomate to it. TM5400Ci+ for SD or a TM6800/6900 for HD. The Diablo Cam works well with the Technomates apparently. Read up about what the Diablo will give you on the forum, as I've never used one. There's the Gamma and MII+ cards as well, not sure what they do exacly, but theyr'e expensive so they must do something worthwhile.

Depends where you are located, but there are a few good FTA channels on 7W as well, with a 1m+ dish, in the south east UK. I really only watch those.

Well of course it is all a matter of opinion but apart from freesat viewing the only other English TV is sky.
Ok if the solitary open package on 1 West shows a film you may get lucky and have an English soundtrack or it may be transmitted with a secondary soundtrack in English, they are in the middle of a card swap so that may be very short lived but the days of watching multiple platforms in English for example Multivision and are gone I'm afraid.

There's at least eight movies running concurrently on the 1W/0.8W, all with English soundtracks. Encrypted, but openable with a Diablo CAM/Underworld emulation file.
